Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-350-087 Remove the Damaged Tube

      1. Cut of damaged tube.

      2. Refer to Figure for dimension and identification of tubes.

      1. Cut away tube end.

      2. Attach replacement tube in position, cut tube end on case as necessary.

      3. Refer to dimensions in Figure.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-110-062 Clean the Back Tube End

      1. Clean the tube end.

      2. Use a soft cloth only.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-220-064 Examine the Parts of Cracks

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      2. Possible cracks cause decrease in weld strength.

      3. Cut to remove, within dimensions in Figure.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-110-063 Clean the Surfaces to be Welded

      1. Clean the surfaces to be welded.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

      3. Dirty surfaces cause a reduction in weld strength.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-310-051 Weld in the Replacement Tube

      NOTE

      Do the weld of titanium in a protective gas atmosphere to avoid impurities in weld seams, leading to premature cracked and reduction in fatigue strength.
      1. Weld replacement tube in to position, use tungsten inert gas method.

      2. Refer to Figure and SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

      3. For purity of welds, weld in a protective gas environment.

      4. Use applicable fixture.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-220-065 Examine the Welds

      1. Examine the weld quality.

      2. Refer to TASK 70-31-13-310-501 for acceptance standards.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-230-058 Examine the Repaired Areas for Cracks

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

      3. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-370-053 Heat Treatment after the Repair

      1. Heat treat air cooling duct, assembly.

      2. Put the part in the Furnace for two hours at 887 deg F (475 deg C).

      3. Use Argon, or air, or vacuum.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-230-059 Examine the Repaired Areas for Cracks

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

      3. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-220-066 Do the Post Repair Inspection

      1. Dimensionally examine the repaired areas.

      2. Refer to dimensions in Figure.

      1. Examine air holes for blockage.

      2. Maximum one blocked hole per repaired tube is permitted.
