TASK 78-11-11-020-001 Remove the Common Nozzle Assembly (CNA), Removal-001

General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved CoMat 10-058 PENETRATING OIL before the removal of threaded parts and parts with an interference fit. Let the parts soak before removal.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 78-11-11-020-056 Install the Common Nozzle Fixture

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure .

    3. Lift the IAE 1N20001 Common nozzle fixture 1 off with a suitable lifting device to the common nozzle assembly (CNA) (01-010).

    4. Attach the fixture straps around the nozzle to hold it on the fixture.

    5. Put the IAE 1N20004 Common nozzle dolly 1 off in to position at the rear of the engine.

    1. SUBTASK 78-11-11-020-057 Remove the Core Cowl Fire Detector from the Air Cooled Air Cooler (ACAC) Exhaust Duct

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the nut FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-131), washer FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-129), bolt FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-125), and the clip FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-127) from the ACAC exhaust duct ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing(75-22-48, 01-010).

    4. Remove the nut FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-137), washer FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-135), bolt FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-132), and the clip FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-133) from the ACAC exhaust duct ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-010).

    5. Remove the nut FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-145), washer FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-143), bolt FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-140), and the clip FIRE PROTECTION-CORE ZONE FIRE DETECTOR (26-12-17, 01-141) from the ACAC exhaust duct ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-010).

    1. SUBTASK 78-11-11-020-058 Remove the Lower Segment of the Air Cooled Air Cooler (ACAC) Exhaust Duct (Pre SBN 75-0058, SBN 75-0058)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Pre SBN 75-0058: Remove the four bolts ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-050) which attach the housing of the ACAC exhaust duct ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-010) to the CNA (78-11-11,01-010).

    4. SBN 75-0058: Remove the two bolts ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-085), the two radius blocks ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-075) and ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-080) and the two nuts ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-070) that attach the housing ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-040) to the CNA (78-11-11,01-010). Remove the support ring ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-060) and the backup ring ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-065).

    5. Remove the coupling ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-020) and the seal ACAC Exhaust Duct And Housing (75-22-48, 01-030) which attach the ACAC exhaust duct lower segment to the upper segment.

    6. Remove the ACAC exhaust duct lower segment with the housing from the CNA.

    1. SUBTASK 78-11-11-020-059 Remove the Common Nozzle Assembly (CNA)

      NOTE

      Access to some of the CNA fasteners is difficult. Access to these fasteners can be improved by the use of a standard 5/16 in. (7.93 mm) wrench modified to fit the contour of the CNA.
    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the bolts Common Nozzle Assembly (CNA) (78-11-11, 01-020), washers Common Nozzle Assembly (CNA) (78-11-11, 01-025) and nuts Common Nozzle Assembly (CNA) (78-11-11, 01-030) or the bolts Common Nozzle Assembly (CNA) (78-11-11, 01-020) and washers Common Nozzle Assembly (CNA) (78-11-11, 01-025) which attach the CNA Common Nozzle Assembly (CNA) (78-11-11, 01-010) to the engine flange.

    4. Carefully remove the CNA in the fixture away from the rear of the engine. Make sure that you do not touch the exhaust cone Engine Exhaust Cone And Plug (78-11-12, 01-010) with the CNA.

    5. Install the IAE 1N20001 Common nozzle fixture 1 off with the CNA on the IAE 1N20004 Common nozzle dolly 1 off.
