Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-41-320-053 Machine the Inner Diameter of the Drive Gear

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter.

      2. Remove all damage and wear. The inner diameter must be between 0.8657 and 0.8726 in. (21.990 and 22.165 mm) after the removal of the damage.

      3. Keep the removal of the material to the minimum necessary, to remove the damage.

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-41-430-051 Examine the Drive Gear

      1. Do the magnetic particle inspection for cracks.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-24-01-240-501.

      3. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-41-330-066 Nickel Plate the Inner Diameter of the Drive Gear

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply masking the areas of the drive gear not to be plated.

      1. Do the nickel plating.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-33-08-300-503.

      3. Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit machining to the last dimensions.

      4. The plating out of the mating surface is permitted, but must be removed.

    3. Remove the masking.

      1. Clean and dry the drive gear.

      2. Flush with cold water.

      3. Flush with hot water.

      4. Dry with an air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-41-370-052 De-embrittle the Drive Gear

      1. Put the drive gear into an Oven at 349 to 400 deg F (176 to 204 deg C) for 4 hours

      2. Do this procedure as soon as possible, in less than 4 hours, after plating.

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-41-220-158 Examine the Drive Gear

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      2. Plating must have a constant color.

      3. No circumferential cracks are permitted.

      4. No roughness or blistering is permitted.

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter.

      2. The dimension of the inner diameter must be between 3.8647 and 3.8653 in. (21.965 and 21.980 mm).

      3. Chamfer, where necessary.

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plated area for cracks and adhesion.

      2. Use a 4X Magnifying glass. The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding is permitted.

      1. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      2. Do not accept a thickness of less than 0.0006 in. (0.015 mm), after the last machining.

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-41-350-070 Record the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Vibro-engrave VRS5347 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Remove the metal lifted by marking.
