General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the LPC inlet guide vane assembly.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-088 Remove the LPC Inlet Guide Vane Assembly (Vane Assembly) from the LP Compressor Front Case

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Make sure that the fan frame and fan case assembly is installed horizontally on the turnover stand. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-002 (DISASSEMBLY-002).

    3. Make sure that the workmat is in position in the fan case. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-002 (DISASSEMBLY-002).

    4. Remove the 34 bolts which attach the eight brackets A, B, C and D to the front flange of the LP compressor front case with IAE 1J12483 Socket wrench 1 off, Figure. Remove the eight brackets.

    5. Remove the 12 bolts and washers which attach the vane assembly to the front flange of the LP compressor front case, Figure.

      6. Release the vane assembly from the LP compressor front case.

      1. Install the four puller bolts (part of IAE 1J12139 Puller bolt set 1 off) into four of the eight threaded holes in the front flange of the LP compressor front case. The four puller bolts must be installed at 90 degrees apart from each other.

      2. NOTE

        Hold the weight of the vane assembly when it is released from the LP compressor front case.

        Tighten the four puller bolts equally until the vane assembly is released from the LP compressor front case.

    7. CAUTION

      CAREFULLY MOVE THE VANE ASSEMBLY SO AS NOT TO HIT THE SEAL FINS ON THE LP COMPRESSOR STAGE 1.5 - 2.5 DISK.

      Move the vane assembly forwards until it is clear of the LP compressor stage 1.5 - 2.5 disk.

    8. Remove the puller bolts from the threaded holes in the front flange of the LP compressor front case.
