Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-059 Machine the Rear Face of the Rear Inner Flange

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Machine the rear face of the rear inner flange.

      2. The dimension must be between 10.0256 to 10.0177in. (254.65 to 254.45 mm) in relation to surface Z.

        Remove all damage and wear.

Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-058 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Do the fluorescent penetrant inspection for cracks.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501.

        No cracks are permitted.

      1. Drain the fluorescent penetrant from the struts.

      2. Repair, VRS3655 TASK 72-50-53-300-076 (REPAIR-076).

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-330-054 Nickel Plate the Rear Face of the Rear Inner Flange of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mask the areas of the turbine exhaust case not to be plated.

      1. Do the nickel plating.

      2. Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit the machining to the last dimension.

The plating out of the rear face is permitted but must be removed.

    3. Remove the mask.

      1. Clean and dry the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Flush with cold water.

        Flush with hot water.

        Dry with air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-055 De-embrittle the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Put the turbine exhaust case into a furnace at 349 to 399 deg F (176 to 204 deg C) for 4 hours.

      2. Do this process as soon as possible in less than 4 hours after the plating.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-089 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      2. Plating must have a constant color.

        No circumferential cracks are permitted.

No rough and blistering are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-060 Machine the Rear Face of the Rear Inner Flange of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Machine the rear face of the rear inner flange.

      2. The dimension must be between 10.0492 to 10.0295in. (255.25 to 254.75 mm) in relation to surface Z.

        Chamfer where necessary.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-090 Examine the Nickel Plated Area

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plated area for cracks and adhesion.

      2. Use a 4X magnifying glass.

The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding, is permitted.

      1. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      2. Do not accept thickness less than 0.0006in. (0.015 mm) after the last machining.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-058 Record the Repair

      1. Vibro engrave VRS5403 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Remove the metal lifted by marking.
