Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-063 Machine the No. 5 Bearing Retainer Seat

    1. Refer to: Figure

      2. Machine the seat of the No. 5 bearing retainer.

      1. The diameter must be between 5.5993 to 5.6047in. (142.223 to 142.360 mm).

        Surface rough must be 32 microin. (0.8 micron) before plating.

        Remove all damage and wear.

        Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    2. SUBTASK 72-50-53-240-051 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Do the magnetic particle inspection for cracks.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-24-01-240-501.

        No cracks are permitted.

    3. SUBTASK 72-50-53-210-051 Nital Etch the No. 5 Bearing Retainer Seat

      1. Do the nital etch on the seat to find sign of burning coating.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-21-02-210-501.

        Machine the seat if there are signs of burned metal.

        Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    4. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-057 De-embrittle the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Put the turbine exhaust case into oil at 284 deg F (140 deg C) for 2 hours.

      1. Do this process as soon as possible in less than 2 hours after etch.

    5. SUBTASK 72-50-53-110-056 Clean the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Do the vapor degreasing.

    6. SUBTASK 72-50-53-330-056 Chromium Plate the No. 5 Bearing Retainer Seat

    1. Refer to: Figure

      2. Mask the area of the turbine exhaust case not to be plated.

      3. Do the chromium plating.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-330-501.

        Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit the machining to the last dimensions.

        The plate out of the bearing retainer seat is permitted but must be removed.

    4. Remove the mask.

      5. Clean and dry the turbine exhaust case.

      1. Flush with cold water.

        Flush with hot water.

        Dry with air blast.

    7. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-058 De-embrittle the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Put the turbine exhaust case into a furnace at 284 to 320 deg F (140 to 160 deg C) for 5 hours.

      1. Do this process as soon as possible in less than 4 hours after the plating.

    8. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-093 Examine the Chromium Plated Area

    1. Refer to: Figure

      2. Do the visual inspection of the plated area for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      1. Plating must have a constant color.

        No bubbles or sign of burned metal are permitted.

    9. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-064 Machine the No. 5 Bearing Retainer Seat

    1. Refer to: Figure

      2. Machine the seat of the No. 5 bearing retainer.

      1. The last dimension of the seat must be between 5.5906 to 5.5930in. (142.000 to 142.063 mm).

        Chamfer where necessary.

    10. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-094 Examine the Chromium Plated Area

      1. Do the visual inspection of the chromium plated area for cracks and adhesion.

      1. Use a 5X magnifying glass.

        The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding, is permitted.

      2. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      1. Do not accept thickness less than 0.001in. (0.025 mm) after the last machining.

    11. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-060 Record the Repair

      1. Vibro engrave VRS5407 adjacent to the part number.

      1. Remove the metal lifted by marking the number.
