General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the inlet guide vane.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-148 Remove the Inlet Guide Vane Assembly from the LP Compressor Front Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Make sure that the fan frame and fan case assembly is installed horizontally on the turnover stand. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-002 (DISASSEMBLY-002).

    4. Make sure that the workmat is in position in the fan case. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-002 (DISASSEMBLY-002).

    5. Remove the 100 bolts, washers and nuts which attach the inlet guide vane assembly to the LP compressor booster stage assembly.

    6. NOTE

      Hold the weight of the inlet guide vane assembly when it is released from the LP compressor front case.

      Release the inlet guide vane assembly from the LP compressor front case.

    7. CAUTION

      CAREFULLY MOVE THE INLET GUIDE VANE ASSEMBLY SO AS NOT TO HIT THE SEAL FINS ON THE LP COMPRESSOR STAGE 1.5 - 2.5 DISK.

      Move the inlet guide vane assembly forwards until it is clear of the LP compressor stage 1.5 - 2.5 disk.
