Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 36-11-49-220-062 Examine the Area for Repair

      1. Mark the repair area of the duct.

      2. The repair area of the duct must measure a minimum dimension of 10 times the depth of the damage.

      1. Measure the external diameter of the duct at the damaged area.

      2. Use the micrometer and record the diameter.

    1. SUBTASK 36-11-49-350-051 Repair the Area of Damage

      1. Remove the damage.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

    1. SUBTASK 36-11-49-110-053 Clean the Repaired Area

      WARNING

DO NOT GET THE CLEANING FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, GLOVES, GOGGLES AND A MASK. USE THE FLUID IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA. DO NOT BREATHE THE GAS. IF YOU GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES, FLUSH IT AWAY WITH WATER. GET MEDICAL AID IF YOUR SKIN OR EYES BECOME IRRITATED.
      1. Clean the repaired area.

      1. Visually examine the repaired area.

      2. Refer to Inspection-000 TASK 36-11-49-200-100.

      3. Make sure that the repaired area is smooth and has no scratches.

      4. Make sure that the repaired area has no sudden changes in thickness.

      1. Measure the external diameter of the duct at the repaired area.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Make sure that the deepest area of the repair is measured.

      4. Record the diameter.

      1. Calculate the wall thickness of the duct in the repaired area.

      2. Refer to Figure (Dimension 'X') for items 01-100 and 01-500.

      3. Compare the external diameter measurement (after the repair) with the measurement made before the repair.

      4. For the ducts repaired on one side, the difference between the measurements must not be more than 0.006 in. (0.152 mm).

      5. For the ducts repaired all around their circumference, the measurements must not be more than 0.012 in. (0.305 mm).

      6. Refer to Figure (Dimension 'X') for item 01-300. For the ducts repaired on one side, the difference between the measurements must not be more than 0.025 in. (0.635 mm).

      7. For the ducts repaired all around their circumference, the measurements must not be more than 0.050 in. (1.27 mm).

      8. Discard any ducts that are not in these limits.

    1. SUBTASK 36-11-49-780-055 Pressure Test the Repaired Duct

      1. Do a pressure test on the repaired duct.

      2. Refer to Testing - 001 TASK 36-11-49-700-101.

    1. SUBTASK 36-11-49-850-051 Put the Repair Scheme Number on the Duct

      1. Mark the repair scheme number VRS2863 on the duct, adjacent to the part number, with the electro-etch method.
