Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 71-00-00-610-056 Clean the Starter Sight Glass

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Drain the starter.

      2. Position an applicable container under the starter.

      3. Remove the combined drain plug/magnetic chip detector STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-300) and drain the pneumatic starter.

      4. Remove the sealing ring from the drain plug and discard.

      1. Removal of the starter sight glass.

      2. Remove the lockwire that safeties the starter sight glass STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-340).

      3. Remove the starter sight glass STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-340) with the sealing ring STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-338) from the pneumatic starter STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-200).

      4. Discard the sealing ring.

      1. Clean the starter sight glass.

      2. WARNING

        SOLVENT IS TOXIC AND MUST BE USED ONLY IN A WELL VENTILATED ROOM. DO NOT USE NEAR OPEN FLAME. USE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING AND AVOID CONTACT OF THIS SOLUTION WITH THE SKIN.

        Clean the starter sight glass with CoMat 10-061 STODDARD SOLVENT at room temperature and dry with clean compressed air.

      3. NOTE

        Only CoMat xx-xxx neutral detergent should be used as other products will cause the glass to dull.

        Immerse the starter sight glass in the Ultrasonic Cleaner (Refer to SPM TASK 70-13-xx-xx) filled with CoMat xx-xxx neutral detergent solution of the concentration of about 5 to 100.

      4. Ultrasonic clean at room temperature for one hour.

      5. Dry with compressed air and examine the starter sight glass.

      6. If the starter sight glass is clear after cleaning it can be reused.

      7. If the starter sight glass remains dark, replace with a new starter sight glass.

      1. Install the starter sight glass.

      2. Install the sealing ring STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-338) onto the starter sight glass STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-340) and install into the pneumatic starter STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-200) (Refer to Figure).

      3. Torque the starter sight glass to 45 to 60 lbfin* (5 to 6.8 Nm).

      4. Safety the starter sight glass with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

      1. Refill pneumatic starter.

      2. Refill in accordance with TASK 71-00-00-600-001 (SERVICING-001) Fill the pneumatic starter with oil.
