General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

For all the parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the Fig/item number.

For standard torque data and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-41-00-400-501, SPM TASK 70-41-01-400-501 and SPM TASK 70-41-02-410-501.

Special torque data is identified with the symbol * after the torque value.

Lubricate all threads and abutment faces of nuts and bolts with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS unless other lubricants are referred to in the procedure.

For lockwire data and procedures refer to the SPM TASK 70-42-05-400-501.

To identify, lubricate and install seal rings, refer to the SPM TASK 70-44-01-400-501.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 71-00-00-610-052-A00 Fill the Pneumatic Starter with Oil (Pre SBE 80-0003 and Pre SBE 80-0007)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. WARNING

      DO NOT LET THE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

      CAUTION

      USE CLEAN CONTAINERS AND EQUIPMENT. A SMALL QUANTITY OF SOME CLEANING FLUIDS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE OIL.

      Make sure the drain plug/magnetic chip detector is installed and safetied with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    4. Remove the lockwire that safeties the oil filler plug STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-310).

    5. Remove the oil filler plug from the oil filler point and remove and discard the sealing ring STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-308).

    6. Put an applicable container below the pneumatic starter to catch any spilled oil.

    7. CAUTION

      DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN USED OR SPILLED FROM THE ENGINE OR PNEUMATIC STARTER BACK IN THE OIL SYSTEM.

      Remove the oil overflow plug STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-320) from the oil overflow point and remove and discard the sealing ring STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-318).

    8. Put an applicable container below the pneumatic starter to catch any spilled oil.

    9. CAUTION

      DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN USED OR SPILLED FROM THE ENGINE OR PNEUMATIC STARTER BACK IN THE OIL SYSTEM.

      Put clean CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS into the oil filler point until the oil overflows from the oil fill port or overflow port.

    10. Lightly lubricate a new STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-318) sealing ring 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install it on the oil overflow plug STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-320).

    11. Install the oil overflow plug and torque it to 30 to 45 lbfin* (3.4 to 5.0 Nm)*.

    12. Safety the oil overflow plug with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    13. Lightly lubricate a new STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-308) sealing ring 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install it on the oil filler plug.

    14. Make sure the oil is at the correct level. Install the oil filler plug and torque to 20 to 35 * lbfin (2,3 to 4 Nm).

    15. Safety the oil filler plug with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    16. Remove any unwanted oil from the outside of the pneumatic starter with a clean CoMat 02-099 LINT-FREE CLOTH.

    17. Remove the container and discard any oil.

    1. SUBTASK 71-00-00-610-052-B00 Fill the Pneumatic Starter with Oil (SBE 80-0003 and Pre SBE 80-0007)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. WARNING

      DO NOT LET THE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

      CAUTION

      USE CLEAN CONTAINERS AND EQUIPMENT. A SMALL QUANTITY OF SOME CLEANING FLUIDS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE OIL.

      Make sure the drain plug/magnetic chip detector is installed and safetied with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    4. If the oil sight glass is discoloured and will prevent checking of the oil level after filling it can be cleaned in accordance with relevant cleaning TASK.

    5. Remove the lockwire that safeties the oil filler plug STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-290).

    6. Hold the adapter STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-310) with a spanner to stop rotation and remove the oil filler plug.

    7. Remove and discard the sealing ring STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-288) on the oil filler plug.

    8. Put an applicable container below the pneumatic starter to catch any spilled oil.

    9. CAUTION

      DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN USED OR SPILLED FROM THE ENGINE OR PNEUMATIC STARTER BACK IN THE OIL SYSTEM.

      Remove the oil overflow plug STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-320) from the oil overflow point and remove and discard the sealing ring STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-318).

    10. Put an applicable container below the pneumatic starter to catch any spilled oil.

    11. CAUTION

      DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN USED OR SPILLED FROM THE ENGINE OR PNEUMATIC STARTER BACK IN THE OIL SYSTEM.

      NOTE

      The sight glass was introduced to act as a guide to ensure the starter was serviced and must not be relied on as an accurate gauge.

      Put clean CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS in the oil filler point until oil overflows from the oil fill port or oil overflow port. The starter sight glass can be used to confirm oil is present but not the oil quantity. (Refer to Figure).

    12. Lightly lubricate new STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-318) sealing ring 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install it on the overflow plug STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-320).

    13. Install the overflow plug and torque it to 30 to 45 lbfin* (3.4 to 5.0 Nm)*.

    14. Safety the oil overflow plug with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    15. Lightly lubricate a STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-288) sealing ring 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install it on the oil filler plug.

    16. Install the oil filler plug and torque to 20 to 35 lbfin* (2.3 to 4 Nm).

    17. Safety the oil filler plug with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    18. Remove any unwanted oil from the outside of the pneumatic starter with a clean CoMat 02-099 LINT-FREE CLOTH.

    19. Remove the container and discard any oil.

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. WARNING

      DO NOT LET THE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

      CAUTION

      DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN USED OR SPILLED FROM THE ENGINE OR PNEUMATIC STARTER BACK IN THE OIL SYSTEM.

      Remove the oil overflow plug STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-320) from the overflow point and remove and discard the sealing ring STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-318).

    9. Put an applicable container below the pneumatic starter to catch any spilled oil.

    10. CAUTION

      DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN USED OR SPILLED FROM THE ENGINE OR PNEUMATIC STARTER BACK IN THE OIL SYSTEM.

      NOTE

    11. Lightly lubricate a new STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-318) sealing ring 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install it on the oil overflow plug STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-320).

    12. Install the oil overflow plug and torque it to 30 to 45 lbfin* (3.4 to 5.0 Nm)*.

    13. Safety the oil overflow plug with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    14. Lightly lubricate a new STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-308) sealing ring 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install it on the oil filler plug.

    15. Install the oil filler plug and torque to 20 to 35 lbfin* (2.3 to 4 Nm).

    16. Safety the oil filler plug with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    17. Remove any unwanted oil from the outside of the pneumatic starter with a clean CoMat 02-099 LINT-FREE CLOTH.

    18. Remove the container and discard any oil.

    1. SUBTASK 71-00-00-610-054 Fill the Pneumatic Starter with Oil (SBE 70-0395)

      WARNING

      DO NOT LET THE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

      CAUTION

      USE CLEAN CONTAINERS AND EQUIPMENT. A SMALL QUANTITY OF SOME CLEANING FLUIDS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE OIL.
    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Make sure that the drain plug/magnetic chip detector is installed and safetied with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    4. CAUTION

      DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN USED OR SPILLED FROM THE ENGINE OR PNEUMATIC STARTER BACK IN THE OIL SYSTEM.

      Remove the oil overflow plug STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-320) from the overflow point and remove and discard the sealing ring STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-318).

    5. Put an applicable container below the pneumatic starter to catch any spilled oil.

    6. CAUTION

      DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN USED OR SPILLED FROM THE ENGINE OR PNEUMATIC STARTER BACK IN THE OIL SYSTEM.

      Put clean CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS in to the pressure fill facility until oil overflows from the oil overflow point.

    7. Lightly lubricate a new STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-318) sealing ring 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install it on the oil overflow plug STARTING-PNEUMATIC STARTER (80-13-41, 01-320).

    8. Install the oil overflow plug and torque it to 30 to 45 lbfin* (3.4 to 5.0 Nm)*.

    9. Safety the oil overflow plug with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    10. Remove any unwanted oil from the outside of the pneumatic starter with a clean CoMat 02-099 LINT-FREE CLOTH.

    11. Remove the container and discard any oil.
