TASK 71-21-11-020-001-A00 Remove The Front Mount Support Assembly And Mount Brackets - Method 1
General
This TASK gives the procedure to remove the front engine mount tube, the mount tube outer race assembly and the thrust mount brackets.
There are two methods to remove the front engine mount tube and the mount tube outer race assembly.
Method 1 uses the hooking puller (IAE 1J12476 TBD or IAE 1J12516 Hooking puller) and the turning handle (IAE 1J12517 Turning handle).
Method 2 uses the sliding hammer (IAE 1J12518 TBD) and the removal adapter (IAE 1J12519 Removal adapter).
This TASK uses the Method 1 procedure.
For the Method 2 procedure, refer to TASK 71-21-11-020-001-B00.
Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.
Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts and parts with an interference fit. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved penetrating oils and procedures, refer to SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.
The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position, which is the No. 1 strut position of the fan frame when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

Remove the eight nuts which attach mount tube outer race assembly to No. 1 strut of the fan frame, Figure.
Find the positions at which the hooking puller (IAE 1J12476 TBD 1 off or IAE 1J12516 Hooking puller 1 off) is to be installed on the mount tube outer race assembly and the four studs, Figure and Figure.
Temporarily put the setting tubes (part of the hooking puller) on the four studs of the fan frame, Figure.
SUBTASK 71-21-11-020-053 Find the Identified Position for Installation of the Hooking Puller
Refer to Figure.
Install IAE 1J12517 Turning handle 1 off to the front engine mount tube with the four bolts (part of the turning handle) and tighten the four bolts.
NOTE
The front engine mount tube is removed without adjustment of the angle in TASK 71-21-11-020-001-B00.If you can not turn easily the front engine mount tube, go to TASK 71-21-11-020-001-B00.
SUBTASK 71-21-11-020-055 Adjust the Angle of the Front Engine Mount Tube
NOTE
There are two alternative special tools for removal of the mount tube outer race assembly. IAE 1J12516 Hooking puller has the ring as part of the hooking puller to safety the four jaws. IAE 1J12476 TBD does not have the ring.Prepare IAE 1J12476 TBD 1 off or IAE 1J12516 Hooking puller 1 off for installation, Figure. Figure and Figure.
Lightly tighten the bolts A and nuts A (part of the hooking puller), Figure.
Tighten the nuts A and bolts A (part of the hooking puller), Figure.
IAE 1J12516 Hooking puller only: Install the ring (part of IAE 1J12516 Hooking puller) on four jaws, Figure.
SUBTASK 71-21-11-020-054 Install the Hooking Puller on the Mount Tube Outer Race Assembly
If the mount tube and the outer race assembly can move rearward with the hooking puller, go to step (3). If the mount tube and outer race assembly can not be removed from the fan frame with the hooking puller, go to TASK 71-21-11-020-001-B00.
Remove the mount tube and the outer race assembly, Figure.
Remove the hooking puller from mount tube-outer race assembly, Figure.
Remove the upper outer race and lower outer race from the front engine mount tube, Figure.
