TASK 71-21-11-020-001-B00 Remove The Front Mount Support Assembly And Mount Brackets - Method 2

General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the front engine mount tube, the mount tube outer race assembly and the thrust mount brackets.

There are two methods to remove the front engine mount tube and the mount tube outer race assembly.

Method 1 uses the hooking puller (IAE 1J12476 TBD or IAE 1J12516 Hooking puller) and the turning handle (IAE 1J12517 Turning handle).

Method 2 uses the sliding hammer (IAE 1J12518 TBD) and the removal adapter (IAE 1J12519 Removal adapter).

This TASK uses the Method 2 procedure.

For the Method 1 procedure, refer to TASK 71-21-11-020-001-A00.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts and parts with an interference fit. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved penetrating oils and procedures, refer to SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position, which is the No.1 strut position of the fan frame when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 71-21-11-020-056 Move the Front Engine Mount Tube and the Mount Tube Outer Race Assembly

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Install IAE 1J12519 Removal adapter 1 off to the front engine mount tube with four bolts (part of the removal adapter) and tighten the four bolts.

    3. Install IAE 1J12518 TBD 1 off to the removal adapter with the lock pin (part of the sliding hammer).

      4. Move the front engine mount tube.

      1. Move the weight (part of the sliding hammer) rearward quickly to hit the nut (part of the sliding hammer) so that the front engine mount tube becomes free from unwanted friction.

      2. Repeat Step until the front engine mount tube can move easily by hand.

    5. Remove the sliding hammer and the removal adapter from the front engine mount tube.

    6. Remove the front engine mount tube and the mount tube outer race assembly by hand.

    7. Remove the upper outer race and the lower outer race from the front engine mount tube.

    2. SUBTASK 71-21-11-020-057 Remove the No. 2 and the No. 10 Strut Thrust Mount Brackets

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. NOTE

      Hold the mount bracket before you remove the bolts to prevent the mount bracket from falling.

      Remove the bolts and nuts and remove the No. 2 and the No. 10 strut thrust mount brackets from the fan frame.
