The cables are of sufficient length to permit the replacement of the contacts two times only. If more replacements are necessary the harness must be disassembled and the applicable cables replaced (Refer to Repair, VRS2965 TASK 71-51-43-300-001 (REPAIR-001)).

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 71-51-43-350-060 Replace the Contact Pin or Socket

      CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE THE CORRECT LOCATOR AND THAT THE CRIMP TOOL IS SET CORRECTLY. IF NOT, THE CABLE OR THE CONTACT CAN BE DAMAGED OR THE CONTACT INCORRECTLY ATTACHED TO THE CABLE.
      1. Disassemble the backclamp and the connector.

      2. Refer to Repair, VRS2981 TASK 71-51-43-300-003 (REPAIR-003).

      1. Prepare the cable end.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Cut the cable adjacent to the contact pin or socket.

      4. Discard the rejected part.

      5. Remove 0.276 in. (7.0 mm) of the cable insulation.

      1. Install the new contact pin or socket.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Put the conductor in to the contact barrel until it touches the bottom (or it can be seen in the inspection hole).

      4. Use the Crimp tool set for the correct gauge of cable, with the applicable Locator (16 gauge or 20 gauge), to crimp the contact barrel.

      1. Do a check of the crimped joint.

      2. Manually pull the contact to make sure that it is satisfactorily attached to the conductor.

      1. Assemble the backclamp and the connector.

      2. Refer to Repair, VRS2981 TASK 71-51-43-300-003 (REPAIR-003).

      1. Do a continuity and insulation test.

    1. SUBTASK 71-51-43-850-053 Put the Repair Scheme Number on the Harness

      1. Put the repair scheme number VRS2988 on the identification sleeve of the harness, adjacent to the part number.
