General
This TASK gives the procedure to repair the dry film lubricant on the dovetail of the low pressure (LP) compressor fan disc.
There are two methods for repair of the dry film lubricant in this task.
The steps 4 and 7 are a procedure for method 1.
The steps 5 and step 8 are a procedure for method 2.
For consumable materials for each method, refer to 2.B Consumable materials.
This repair must only be done when instructed to do so given in 72-00-31-200-004 inspection.
Price and availability - none
The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK number are in the SPM.
NOTE
To identify the consumable materials, refer to the PCI.
The rapid re-lube system is the revised method of applying the dry film lubricant. A purpose-designed rapid re-lube kit contains the cleaning and applicator tools for the re-lubrication of one fan blade set and fan disc. The rapid re-lube kit is a disposable kit and must be discarded accordingly after the fan disc has been lubricated again.

NONEProcedure
Refer to Figure.
Use a clean CoMat 02-099 LINT-FREE CLOTH made moist with clean CoMat 01-031 ACETONE (CH3)2CO or CoMat 01-124 ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL.

WARNING
DO NOT GET CLEANING FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, GOGGLES AND A FACE MASK. USE THE FLUID IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA. DO NOT BREATHE THE VAPOR. IF YOU GET THE CLEANING FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES, FLUSH IT AWAY WITH WATER. GET MEDICAL AID IF YOUR SKIN OR EYES BECOME IRRITATED.Clean the missing layer areas.
SUBTASK 72-00-31-110-060-A01 Clean the Missing Layer Areas on the Dovetail Slot - Method 1
Refer to Figure.
Use CoMat 04-017 KIT, RAPID RELUBRICATION SYSTEM, fan disc cleaning handle and roller.
Assemble the fan disc cleaning tool.
Use all five cleaning rollers to clean the fan disc slots. Discard the rollers once they have become dirty. It is permitted to use the fan disc cleaning tool with CoMat 01-031 ACETONE (CH3)2CO or CoMat 01-124 ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL or CoMat 01-338 CLEANING SOLVENT.
Put the roller fully into the above solvent and brush along the slot to remove the loose dry film lubricant and the unwanted material.
Remove the loose dry film lubricant.
Use a CoMat 02-099 LINT-FREE CLOTH made moist with CoMat 01-031 ACETONE (CH3)2CO, CoMat 01-124 ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL or CoMat 01-338 CLEANING SOLVENT.
Remove the grease.

GET MEDICAL AID IF YOUR SKIN OR EYES BECOME IRRITATED.Clean the dovetail slot of the fan disc.
SUBTASK 72-00-31-110-060-A02 Clean the Dovetail Slot - Method 2
Refer to TASK 72-00-31-200-004.
Do a visual inspection of the part.
SUBTASK 72-00-31-220-140 Examine the Fan Disk
Refer to Figure.
If CoMat 10-005 COLLOIDAL MOLYBDENUM DISULFIDE IN TOLUENE was used, dry for minimum eight hours.
If CoMat 10-106 BONDED LUBRICANT was used, dry for 30 minutes.
Air dry.
SUBTASK 72-00-31-350-063-A01 Apply the Dry Film Lubricant on the Dovetail Slot - Method 1
Refer to Figure.
Use CoMat 04-017 KIT, RAPID RELUBRICATION SYSTEM, fan disc applicator handle and paint pads. Remove too much fibers from the pads. Assemble the fan disc applicator handle and pad.
Assemble the fan disc applicator.
Assemble the fan disc applicator.
NOTE
A small amount of the dry film lubricant must be put into a paint try in order to prevent the dry film lubricant drying quickly.
Before filling the paint try with the dry film lubricant, any dried lubricant must be removed from the paint tray. If the dried dry film lubricant remains on the tray, the dried dry film lubricant can cause contamination of the dry film lubricant and inconsistencies in both layer quality and thickness.
Prepare the dry film lubricant.
Make sure that all the paint pad fibers are applied with dry film lubricant. Remove too much dry film lubricant with the edge of the paint tray until the paint pad is a same dark grey color. Do not put too much load on the paint pad as this will cause drips when the dry film lubrication is applied to the dovetail slot.
Put the load on the pad with dry film lubricant for applying of each dovetail slot.
Put the applicator paint pad in the dovetail slot at the top-dead-center position of the disc. Put the paint pad on the left-hand-side surface of the dovetail slot, lightly pushing left and up. Apply a layer of dry film lubricant to the left-hand-side surface with a smooth stroke along the full length of the dovetail slot and back.
For example, from the front to the rear of the disc, and then from the rear to the front of the disc, while put on the left-hand-side surface.
Put the paint pad on the right-hand-side surface of the dovetail slot, lightly pushing right and up. Apply a layer of dry film lubricant to the right-hand-side surface with a smooth stroke along the full length of the dovetail slot and back.
For example, from the front to the rear of the disc, and then from the rear to the front of the disc, while put on the right-hand-side surface.

CAUTION
THE APPLICATOR PAINT PAD MUST BE REPLACED AFTER EVERY SIX DOVETAIL SLOTS RE-LUBRICATIONS, AS THE PAINT PAD FIBERS BECOME STICKY AND THE PAD DETERIORATED.Apply the dry film lubricant to each dovetail slot.
SUBTASK 72-00-31-350-063-A02 Apply the Dry Film Lubricant - Method 2
Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501. Use vibro engraving equipment.
Put a mark VRS1134 adjacent to the part number.
