General

This TASK gives the procedure to install the fuel filter element in to the fuel cooled oil cooler (FCOC).

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha-variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the item number.

Lubricate all threads and abutment faces of nuts and bolts with CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL unless other lubricants are referred in the procedure.

For the torque tightening procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-41-00-400-501 and TASK 70-41-01-400-501.

Special torque data is identified with the symbol * after the torque value.

For the lockwire data and procedures refer to the SPM TASK 70-42-05-400-501.

To identify, lubricate and install seal rings, refer to the SPM TASK 70-44-01-400-501.

The engine must be isolated from starting air supply, fuel supply and electrical power source while you do this procedure.

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-450-074-A00 Install the Fuel Filter Element

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the cover from the FCOC.

    3. Put the fuel filter element Fuel Filter Element (73-12-42, 01-100) in to position in the FCOC.

      4. Install the new Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-171) sealing ring 1 off.

      1. Lubricate the sealing ring with CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL.

      2. Install the sealing ring in to the groove in the cap of the FCOC.

      5. Attach the cap to the FCOC.

      1. Make sure that the end seal outer diameter of the fuel filter element is aligned with the internal diameter of the cap.

      2. Align the bolt holes in the cap with the bolt holes in the flange on the FCOC.

      3. Attach the cap to the flange on the FCOC and safety with the five bolts Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-167) and washers Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-169).

      4. Torque the bolts to 180 to 200 lbf.in (20.34 to 22.60 Nm).

    2. SUBTASK 72-00-32-450-074-B00 -A1 Series: Install the Fuel Filter Element (SBE 79-0085)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the cover from the FCOC.

    3. Put the fuel filter element Fuel Filter Element (73-12-42, 01-100) in to position in the FCOC.

      4. Install the new Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-171) sealing ring 1 off.

      1. Lubricate the sealing ring with CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL.

      2. Install the sealing ring in to the groove in the cap of the FCOC.

      5. Attach the cap to the FCOC.

      1. Make sure that the end seal outer diameter of the fuel filter element is aligned with the internal diameter of the cap.

      2. Attach the cap to the flange on the FCOC and safety with the ten nuts Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-172) and washers Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-169).

      3. Torque the nuts to 85 to 95 lbf.in (9.61 to 10.73 Nm).

    3. SUBTASK 72-00-32-450-074-C00 -A5 Series: Install the Fuel Filter Element (SBE 79-0086)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the cover from the FCOC.

    3. Put the fuel filter element Fuel Filter Element (73-12-42, 01-100) in to position in the FCOC.

      4. Install the new Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-171) sealing ring 1 off.

      1. Lubricate the sealing ring with CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL.

      2. Install the sealing ring in to the groove in the cap of the FCOC.

      5. Attach the cap to the FCOC.

      1. Make sure that the end seal outer diameter of the fuel filter element is aligned with the internal diameter of the cap.

      2. Attach the cap to the flange on the FCOC and safety with the twelve nuts Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-172) and washers Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-169).

      3. Torque the nuts to 85 to 95 lbf.in (9.61 to 10.73 Nm).

    4. SUBTASK 72-00-32-450-075 Install the Fuel Drain Plug

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Install the new Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-149) sealing ring 1 off.

      1. Lubricate the sealing ring with CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL.

      2. Install the sealing ring in to the groove in the fuel drain plug Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-147).

      3. Attach the fuel drain plug to the cap of the FCOC.

      1. Install the fuel drain plug in to the threaded hole in the cap.

      2. Torque the fuel drain plug to 110 to 120 * lbf.in (12.43 to 13.56 Nm).

      3. Safety the fuel drain plug to the fuel plug with CoMat 02-147 LOCKWIRE.
