General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved CoMat 10-058 PENETRATING OIL before the removal of the threaded parts and parts with an interface fit. Let the parts soak before removal.

Remove and discard the lockwire before parts are disconnected or removed.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and seal washers removed in this procedure.

NOTE

To identify the consumable material refer to the PCI.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-102 Drain the Engine Oil System

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT GET ENGINE OIL ON YOUR SKIN FOR LONG PERIODS. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN BE ABSORBED BY YOUR BODY.
        TO RELEASE THE TANK PRESSURE, DO NOT REMOVE THE OIL TANK CAP FOR FIVE MINUTES AFTER THE ENGINE STOPS. THE HOT OIL IS DANGEROUS.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT LET THE ENGINE MOTOR WHEN THE OIL IS DRAINED.

        Drain the oil tank.

      2. Loosen the oil filler cap.

      3. Release and remove the oil drain plug ENGINE-MAIN GEARBOX CASE AND FITTINGS (72-60-21, 01-120) from the front flange of the main gearbox casing, below the oil pressure pump. Discard the packing from the plug.

      4. NOTE

        Let the engine oil drain for a minimum of 10 minutes.

        Drain the oil in to a container.

      1. Drain the external gearbox.

      2. Put a clean container below the external gearbox to catch the drained oil.

      3. Remove the Left-Hand Gearbox magnetic chip detector (MCD). Refer to TASK 72-00-00-050-001 (REMOVAL-001).

      4. Remove the MCD housing Magnetic Chip Detector (79-22-45, 01-120).

      5. Unscrew and remove the MCD housing. Discard the lockwire. Let the oil drain into a container.

      6. Remove and discard the seal ring Magnetic Chip Detector (79-22-45, 01-140) from the MCD housing.

      7. Repeat Step thru Step for the Right-Hand Gearbox magnetic chip detector and the Angle Gearbox magnetic chip detector.

      1. Drain the scavenge oil filter.

      2. Release and remove the plug from the bottom of the scavenge filter. Drain the oil in to a container.

      3. Discard the packing from the plug.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-103 Remove the Oil Feed Tube (179)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the six bolts and washers which attach the tube flange to the scavenge filter and to the scavenge pump.

    4. Release the bolts which connect the scavenge filter and the tube (180) until the removal of the tube (179) is possible.

    5. Remove the tube (179) and discard the two packings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-104 Remove the Scavenge Tubes (107) and (108) from the Scavenge Oil Pump

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the six bolts which attach the tubes (107) and (108) to the scavenge oil pump and to the LP compressor/intermediate case.

    4. Drain the oil in to a container.

    5. Remove the tube and discard the two sealing rings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-148 Remove the Scavenge Tube (123) from the Scavenge Oil Pump (Pre SBE 79-0056)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Disconnect the scavenge tube (123) from the scavenge tube (124). Use IAE 1R18001 Wrench 1 off.

    4. Remove the bolt, washer, spacer, clipnut and clip from the bracket at clip position 0286.

    5. Remove the three bolts which attach the tube to the scavenge oil pump.

    6. Drain the oil in to a container.

    7. Remove the tube and discard the sealing rings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-148-A00 Remove the Scavenge Tube (123) from the Scavenge Oil Pump (SBE 79-0056)

      SBE 79-0056: Scavenge tubes re-routed and repositioned on the scavenge oil pump

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Disconnect the scavenge tube (123) from the scavenge tube (124). Use IAE 1R18001 Wrench 1 off.

    4. Remove the bolt, washer, spacer, clipnut and clip from the bracket at clip position 0286.

    5. Remove the three bolts which attach the tube to the scavenge oil pump.

    6. Drain the oil in to a container.

    7. Remove the tube and discard the sealing rings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-105 Remove the Scavenge Oil Pump (Pre SBE 79-0056)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the two nuts and washers which attach the adapter to the angle gearbox.

    4. Disconnect the adapter from the angle gearbox and move it along the tube.

    5. WARNING

      BE CAREFUL DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE SCAVENGE OIL PUMP. IT WEIGHS 12.22 LB (5.544 KG).

      CAUTION

      HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE SCAVENGE OIL PUMP DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE NUTS.

      Loosen the six bolts which attach the two tubes to the scavenge oil pump.

    6. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THAT THE STRAINER DOES NOT FALL DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE SCAVENGE PUMP.

      CAUTION

      USE A DULL EDGE TOOL (IE. SMOOTH PUTTY KNIFE) TO SEPARATE THE PUMP FROM THE GEARBOX FLANGE. PAY ATTENTION TO THE PILOTING DIAMETER OF THE PUMP IN ORDER TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE SEALING SURFACES.

      Remove the four nuts and washers which attach the scavenge oil pump to the gearbox casing.

    7. Remove the scavenge oil pump with the two scavenge tubes attached, from the gearbox.

    8. Remove the two packings from the flange of the scavenge pump.

    9. Remove the strainer suction and discard the two packings.

    10. Remove the six bolts and washers which attach the two tubes to the scavenge oil pump.

    11. NOTE

      The parts of the oil scavenge pump must have their maintenance completed, as given in Component Maintenance Manual, Pub.Ref. CMM-MECH-V2500-1IA.

      Remove the two tubes and discard the packings from the flanges of the tubes.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-105-A00 Remove the Scavenge Oil Pump (SBE 79-0056)

      SBE 79-0056: Scavenge tubes re-routed and repositioned on the scavenge oil pump

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the two nuts and washers which attach the adapter to the angle gearbox.

    4. Disconnect the adapter from the angle gearbox and move it along the tube.

    5. WARNING

      BE CAREFUL DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE SCAVENGE OIL PUMP. IT WEIGHS 12.22 LB (5.544 KG).

      CAUTION

      HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE SCAVENGE OIL PUMP DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE NUTS.

      Loosen the six bolts which attach the two tubes to the scavenge oil pump.

    6. CAUTION

    10. Remove the six bolts and washers which attach the two tubes to the scavenge oil pump.

    11. NOTE

      Remove the two tubes and discard the packings from the flanges of the tubes.
