General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the scavenge oil filter element.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the Fig/item number.

Apply the approved CoMat 10-058 PENETRATING OIL before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal.

Discard all rubber seal rings removed in this procedure.

The scavenge oil filter element removed in the procedure must be discarded.

Seal all openings when the components are disconnected to prevent contamination from unwanted material.

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-073 Drain the Oil Filter Housing (01-550) (Pre SBE 79-0101)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. WARNING

      DO NOT GET ENGINE OIL ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND IN TO YOUR BODY.

      WARNING

      USE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

      Cut and discard the CoMat 02-119 LOCKWIRE from the plug Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-120).

    4. Remove the plug and drain the oil into the container 10 L (2 1/2 USGAL) and discard the packing Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-100).

    5. Put the drained oil through a new filter paper (Material No. V02-011) to remove the ferrous and nonferrous debris. Refer to EM TASK 72-00-00-200-008.

      Cut and discard CoMat 02-119 LOCKWIRE from the plug Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-120A).

    4. Remove the plug Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-120A) and packing Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-100A).

    5. Drain the oil into the CONTAINER 10 L (2 1/2USGAL).

    6. Put the drained oil through a new CoMat 02-011 FILTER PAPER to remove the ferrous and nonferrous debris. Refer to EM TASK 72-00-00-200-008.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-074 Remove the Oil Filter Cover Assembly (01-250)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the bolts Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-145) and the washers Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-150).

    4. Remove the cover Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-250) and discard the packing Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-155).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-075 Remove the Scavenge Oil Filter Element (01-100)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the scavenge oil filter element Scavenge Oil Filter Element (79-22-44, 01-100) from the oil filter housing Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-550) and discard the filter element.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-076 Seal all Openings

    2. Install the applicable covers, caps or plugs on all of the openings.
