General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts and parts with an interference fit. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to TASK 70-64-00-640-501

Discard all rubber seal rings removed in this procedure.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

The No. 1 strut, which is the top position strut of the fan frame assembly, is identified by the five pressure tubes on the No. 1 strut leading edge.

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the No. 3 bearing, internal gearbox and support assembly.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-135 Turn the Fan Frame Assembly Vertical with the Front End Up

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Make sure that the fan frame assembly is installed horizontally on the turnover stand. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-012 (DISASSEMBLY-012).

    4. Release the lock pin from the holes in the handle and the support C of the turnover stand.

    5. Turn the handle to set the fan frame assembly vertical with the front end up.

    6. NOTE

      Make sure that the hole in the support C and on one the eight holes in the handle are aligned. If necessary, turn the handle to make the two holes aligned.

      Install the lock pin into position to lock the handle of the turnover stand.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-136 Remove the No. 3 Bearing Internal Gearbox and Support Assembly (Support Assembly) from the Fan Frame Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Install applicable cover sheet to openings XX and YY of the No. 6 strut so that the bolts do not go into the strut, Figure.

    4. NOTE

      Use IAE 1J12024 Special wrench 1 off, to remove the three bolts at the positions Z, Figure.

      Remove the 18 bolts which attach the support assembly and the NF C and NF D brackets to the fan frame assembly, Figure. Remove the NF C and NF D brackets.

      1. Use the four puller bolts (part of IAE 1J12188 Puller bolt 1 off) to release the support assembly from the fan frame assembly, Figure.

      2. Install the four puller bolts into the four threaded holes in the flange of the No. 3 bearing seal support.

      3. Tighten the four puller bolts equally until the support assembly is released from the fan frame assembly.

      4. Remove the puller bolts from the threaded holes in the flange of the support assembly.

      1. Install IAE 1J12326 Vertical sling 1 off to the support assembly, Figure.

      2. Loosen the three nuts on the clamps (part of the vertical sling). Set the clamps not in locked position.

      3. Put the vertical sling onto the support assembly.

      4. Set the clamps in locked position. Tighten the nuts on the clamps.

    5. Attach a hoist to the vertical sling.

    6. Lift the support assembly until it is clear of the fan frame assembly. Figure.

    7. Remove the packing from the support assembly and discard it.

    8. Move the support assembly above IAE 1J12362 Work stand 1 off, Figure.

    9. Make sure that the work stand is vertical and the pin of the work stand is correctly installed to lock the work stand position.

      1. Install the support assembly onto the work stand.

      2. Align the 20 holes in the flange of the support assembly with the holes in the work stand.

      3. Lower the support assembly onto the work stand.

      4. Safety the support assembly with the 20 bolts (part of the work stand). Tighten the bolts.

    10. Remove the hoist from the vertical sling.

      1. Remove the vertical sling from the support assembly.

      2. Loosen the three nuts on the clamps. Set the clamps not in locked position.

      3. Remove the vertical sling.

    11. Remove the seal ring from the support assembly, Figure.

    12. Remove the PTO inner seal ring from the PTO guide tube in the No. 6 strut of the fan frame assembly.

    13. Remove the cover sheet from the openings XX and YY of othe No. 6 strut.
