This TASK gives the procedure to repair the HP Compressor Front Stubshaft by Dressing.
This repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in TASK 72-32-23-200-000 (INSPECTION-000).
The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK/SUBTASK number are in the SPM.

Use Penetrant crack test equipment.
Cracks are not permitted.
Do a penetrant crack test.
SUBTASK 72-32-23-230-053-001 Do a Crack Test
Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.
The maximum depth to remove the damage must not be more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).
The repaired area is to be 50 times the depth.
Do not remove material from the areas specified AB.

CAUTION
TITANIUM COMPONENT - YOU MUST USE SILICON CARBIDE TYPE ABRASIVE WHEELS, STONES AND PAPERS TO DRESS, BLEND AND POLISH THIS COMPONENT. ALUMINIUM OXIDE TYPE MUST NOT BE USED. IF MECHANICAL CUTTERS ARE USED, ONLY LIGHT CUTS MUST BE MADE TO AVOID OVERHEATING THE MATERIAL.TITANIUM COMPONENT - AVOID BUILD UP OF HEAT BY APPLYING ONLY GENTLE PRESSURE AND KEEPING THE TOOL SPEED AS LOW AS POSSIBLE. USE TECHNIQUES WHICH ALLOW FOR PROGRESSIVE WEAR OF THE DRESSING MEDIA TO PRESENT A CONTINUALLY FRESH CUTTING SURFACE TO THE WORK PIECE.DO NOT DWELL ON ONE AREA OF THE COMPONENT.DRESS, WHERE POSSIBLE, IN A CIRCULAR MOTION; TAKING LIGHT CUTS TO AVOID OVERHEATING.TITANIUM COMPONENT - YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOU REMOVE MATERIAL, BLEND AND POLISH, TO MAKE SMOOTH, THAT NO SPARKS ARE PRODUCED AND THE ADJACENT AREA IS MASKED OFF.TITANIUM COMPONENT - IF THE MATERIAL SHOWS A CHANGE IN COLOR DURING DRESSING, TO DARKER THAN A LIGHT STRAW COLOR, THE COMPONENT IS TO BE REJECTED.Remove high metal and small areas of damage except at the corner edges of inner surface.
Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.
The circumferential length of the repaired area is to be 50 times the depth.
Remove small areas of damage at the corner edges of inner surface as necessary.
Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.
Use CoMat 05-106 ABRASIVE STONE and CoMat 05-021 WATERPROOF SILICON CARBIDE to remove sharp corners.
Blend the repaired area as necessary.
Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.
Polish the repaired area to remove the scratches and to give a surface finish the same as the adjacent material.
Polish the repaired area.
SUBTASK 72-32-23-350-051 Remove the Damage

Use chemical cleaning equipment.
Chemically clean.

Use chemical cleaning equipment.
Swab etch the repaired area(s).

Use Binoculars.
Indications of surface defects including galls, nicks, dents, pits, scratches, burrs, sharp edges and a change in color to a darker than light straw color are not permitted.
Make sure the surface finish is the same as the adjacent material.
The maximum depth of the repair must not be more than the given limits.
Use workshop inspection equipment.
Do a visual and dimensional inspection.
