Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-60-350-073 Remove the Damaged Seal from the LPC Bleed Duct Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Examine and identify the damaged strip seal.

      1. Remove damaged seal (but do not cause damage to the parent material) and remaining compound.

      2. Use non-metallic scraper.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-60-360-003 Prepare the Mating Surfaces for the Cold Curing Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Cold liquid degrease the mating surfaces.

    3. NOTE

      A water break-test is not necessary.

      Do Step again.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-60-230-057 Apply the Surface Protection to the LPC Bleed Duct Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply chromate conversion coating to the repair surfaces, if necessary.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-60-360-004 Apply and Cure the Cold Curing Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. CAUTION

      DO NOT EAT ANYTHING OR SMOKE AT LOCATIONS WHERE THESE MATERIALS ARE USED.

      CAUTION

      AFTER PREPARATION THE MATING SURFACES MUST BE FULLY CLEANED AND MUST NOT BE TOUCHED BY HAND, TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION.

      Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Apply the cold curing silicone rubber compound to the mating surface of the LPC bleed duct assembly. Amount to be such that gaps are filled completely by adhesive.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501.

      1. Install the seal to the LPC bleed duct assembly within five minutes after the compound is applied.

      2. Apply sufficient pressure to ensure good contact and to form a witness of adhesive at all edges.

      3. Make sure that compound can be seen around the sealed surfaces.

      4. Seal end gap should be maximum 0.098 in. (2.5 mm).

    3. Remove excess adhesive compound from the LPC bleed duct assembly.

      1. Fill gap of seal end with compound.

      1. Mask the seal end area.

      2. Use Teflon coated paper, Teflon coated cooking paper or similar.

    4. Put the valve ring assembly V2500-A5-72-32-72-01A-941A-D (72-32-72,01-100) on the seal of LPC bleed duct assembly.

      1. NOTE

        The parts can be touched after 12 hours.

        Cure the compound at 68 deg F (20 deg C) for 48 hours.

      2. Do not apply a peeling load during this time.

    5. Remove the paper.

      1. Cut off the seal protrusion from the LPC bleed duct assembly.

      2. Use cutter knife.

      3. Take care that the LPC bleed duct assembly is not damaged.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-60-220-103 Examine the Repaired Areas of the LPC Bleed Duct Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Visually examine gapping and filling.

      1. Visually examine the repaired area.

      2. Cracks are not permitted.

      3. Bubbles are not permitted.

      4. Foreign inclusions are not permitted.

      5. Peelings are not permitted.
