Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-72-350-052 Remove the Damaged Rubber Seal from the Valve Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Examine and identify damaged strip seal.

      1. Remove damaged rubber seal (but do not cause damage to the parent material) and remaining compound.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-72-360-051 Prepare the Mating Surfaces for the Cold Curing Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Cold liquid degrease the mating surfaces.

        1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

        2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501.

    3. NOTE

A water break-test is not necessary.

      Do step A again.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-72-230-053 Apply the Surface Protection to the Valve Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply chromate conversion coating to the repair surfaces, if necessary.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-72-360-052 Apply and Cure the Cold Curing Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. CAUTION

DO NOT EAT ANYTHING OR SMOKE AT LOCATIONS WHERE THESE MATERIAL ARE USED.

        CAUTION

AFTER PREPARATION THE MATING SURFACES MUST BE FULLY CLEANED AND MUST NOT BE TOUCHED BY HAND, TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION.

        CAUTION

DO NOT APPLY THE PRIMER TO THE MATING SURFACE OF THE RUBBER SEAL.

        NOTE

The primer must be applied immediately after the mating surfaces are prepared. It is cured at room temperature in the atmosphere.

        NOTE

If the parts are not used immediately, after the primer is applied, they must be kept in polythene bags, but for not longer than 24 hours.

Apply a thin layer of primer only to the prepared mating surface of valve. Dry in air for 30 minutes.

      1. Apply the cold curing silicone rubber compound to each of the mating surfaces.

      1. Install the rubber seal to the valve assembly within three minutes after the compound is applied.

        1. Apply sufficient pressure to ensure good contact and to form a witness of adhesive at all edges.

        2. Make sure that compound can be seen around the sealed surfaces.

    3. Remove excess adhesive compound from the valve.

      1. NOTE

The parts can be touched after 12 hours.

Cure the compound at 68 deg F (20 deg C) for 48 hours.

      2. Do not apply a load during this time.

      1. Cut off the rubber seal protrusion from the valve.

        1. Use cutter knife.

        2. Take care that the valve is not damaged.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-72-220-060 Examine the Repaired Areas of the Valve Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Dimensionally examine the position of the repaired rubber seal.

    4. Visually examine gapping and filling.
