    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-380-063 Apply Surface Protection to the LPC Case Assembly

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating for aluminum with a brush to the surface where silicone rubber compound is removed.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

      3. Apply chromate conversion coating to the surface to which water jet was applied in Step.

      4. Dry abrasive blast is not to be applied in Step.

    2. Use clean cold water and then dry air blast to dry the repaired area.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-120-056 Clean the Surfaces which are to be Applied with Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mask the areas which are not to be applied with silicone rubber compound.

      1. Dry abrasive blast the molding area.

      2. Use a dry blast system cabinet with air pressure of 75 to 99 psig (518 to 683 kPa) at a minimum distance of 6 in. (152 mm) from the air nozzle to the component surface.

    3. Remove the abrasive grit that remains by vacuuming.

      1. Wipe the blasted surfaces.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

    4. NOTE

After cleaning, the component must not be touched by hand and must be covered with craft paper to prevent contamination.

Air dry for 15 minutes minimum.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-084 Apply Primer to the Surfaces after Cleaning

      1. NOTE

The primed surface must have a faint pink color. If there is no color, the primer layer is not continuous. If the color is bright, streaky bright or chalky, the primer is too thick.
Keep the primer in a small container for single use only. Do not use the primer that remains.

Prime the surface of the molding immediately the molding is dry. Use a piece of cheese cloth to apply the primer.

      2. Thickness of primer layer: 0.0001 in. (0.003 mm).

      3. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

      1. Cure the primed surface for a minimum of 2 hours, at more than 77 deg F (25 deg C) and more than 50 percent relative humidity.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-085 Mix the Silicone Rubber Compound

      1. NOTE

Silicone rubber compound has a shelf life of six months from the date of shipment.
The compound, as received, must be kept at a temperature less than 90 deg F (32 deg C).

Mix the silicone rubber compound for a minimum of ten minutes at between 70 to 80 deg F (21 to 27 deg C).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

      1. NOTE

The resin and the catalyst in each kit are chemically matched. Do not mix with components from other kits.

        Mix ratio.

      2. Rubber - 99.5 to 100.5 parts by weight.

      3. Catalyst - 9.8 to 10.2 parts by weight.

    2. Remove the gases from the mixture at a maximum vacuum of 50 mm Hg. for a minimum of 30 minutes.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-086 Mold the Silicone Rubber Compound

      1. Clean the molding fixture.

    2. Attach the component to the molding fixture.

      1. Put the gas free silicone rubber compound into an injector.

      2. Use an injector, air pressure type.

      1. Inject the silicone rubber compound into the component (with the molding fixture attached) until the compound comes out of the vent port of the fixture.

      2. Injection pressure: 35 psig (241.5 kPa).

    3. Remove the injector.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-087 Cure the Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Put the LP compressor front case assembly into an oven.

      3. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

    3. Remove the component from the molding fixture.

      1. Cure the removed component.

      2. Cure at 390 to 410 deg F (199 to 210 deg C) for one hour.

      3. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-220-165 Examine the Repaired Area

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Visually examine the repaired area.

      2. Cracks are not permitted.

      3. Foreign inclusion is not permitted.

      4. Peelings are not permitted.

      5. Bubbles are not permitted.

    3. Do a dimensional check of molding diameter of abradable seal. If necessary, grind the diameter of the abradable seal.

      1. Do a dimensinal check of excess abradable seal (Dim. H.). If necessary, remove the excess resin by using grinding equipment, cutter/knife and/or equivalent.

      2. If Dim. H. the height between the front liner surface of LPC front case and inner surface of abradable seal, is no more than 0.019 in. (0.50 mm), blend abradable seal.

      1. Do a hardness check of the repaired area at four equal spaced positions on the circumference.

      2. Use a hardness tester (durometer).

      3. Hardness: ASTM D2240 (durometer A) 55-65.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-220-073 Do a Bond Test of the Repaired Area

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. NOTE

The bond test must be done after curing of the rubber compound to the conditions that follow:
Inspection gas: Air or nitrogen gas.
Gas pressure: 200 psig (1380 kPa).
Inspection position: Change the pattern as necessary to examine the not fully repaired areas.
        Probe angle: Approximately 45 degrees.

Do a bond test of the repaired area.

      2. No signs of bulging or air leakage are permitted.
