Preliminary Requirements

Procedure

1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-350-053 Remove the Damaged Strip Seal from the Fan Exit Guide Vane

   1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

   2. Examine and identify damaged strip seal.

   3. Remove damaged strip seal without any damage to the parent material and remove the remaining compound.

      1. Use non metalic scraper CoMat 05-019 WATERPROOF SILICON CARBIDE or CoMat 05-020 WATERPROOF SILICON CARBIDE.

2. SUBTASK 72-32-88-360-051 Prepare the Mating Surfaces for the Cold Curing Silicone Rubber Compound

   1. Refer to Figure and Figure

   2. Clean the mating surfaces.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

   3. Hand clean the mating surfaces.

      1. Use CoMat 05-017 GARNET PAPER, 60 GRIT or CoMat 05-016 GARNET PAPER, 80-GRIT.

         Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501.

   4. NOTE

      A water break-test is not necessary.

      Do Step again.

   5. Cut strip to 4.32 in. (109.66 mm) in length.

      1. Use cutter knife.

3. SUBTASK 72-32-88-230-053 Apply the Surface Protection to the Fan Exit Guide Vane

   1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

   2. Apply chromate conversion coating to the repair surfaces, if necessary.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

         1. Use CoMat 01-275 CHROMATE CONVERSION COATING FOR ALUMINIUM.

4. SUBTASK 72-32-88-360-052 Apply and Cure the Cold Curing Silicone Rubber Compound

   1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

   2. 
      CAUTION
      DO NOT EAT ANYTHING OR SMOKE AT LOCATIONS WHERE THESE MATERIAL ARE USED.
      AFTER PREPARATION THE MATING SURFACES MUST BE FULLY CLEANED AND MUST NOT BE TOUCHED BY HAND, TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION.
      DO NOT APPLY THE PRIMER TO THE MATING SURFACE OF THE STRIP SEAL.

      NOTE

      The primer must be applied immediately after the mating surfaces are prepared. It is cured at room temperature by touching to moisture in the air.

      If the parts are not used immediately, after the primer is applied, they must be kept in polythene bags, but for not longer than 24 hours.

      Apply a thin layer of primer only to the prepared mating surface of fan exit guide vane. Dry in the air for 30 minutes.

      1. Use CoMat 08-014 PRIMER, SILICONE ADHESIVE/SEALANT.

         1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501.

   3. Apply the cold curing silicone rubber compound to each of the mating surfaces.

      1. Use a spatula and CoMat 08-013 COLD CURING SILICONE COMPOUND.

         1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501.

   4. Install the strip seal to the fan exit guide vane within three minutes after the compound is applied.

      1. Apply sufficient pressure to ensure good contact and to form a witness of adhesive at all edges.

         1. Make sure that the compound can be seen around the sealed surfaces.

   5. Remove excess adhesive compound from the fan exit guide vane.

   6. Cure the compound at room temperature for 48 hours.

      1. NOTE

         The parts can be touched after 12 hours.

         Do not apply a load during this time.

   7. Cut off the strip seal protrusion from the outlet guide vane.

      1. Care to be taken that the valve does not become damaged.

      2. Use knife cutter.

5. SUBTASK 72-32-88-220-064 Examine the Repaired Areas of the Fan Exit Guide Vane

   1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

   2. Dimensionally examine the position of the repaired strip seal.

   3. Visually examine gapping and filling.
