This Repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in 72-38-25 Inspection.

This Repair instructs sealant to be applied to open joints of the rubber fire seal and to put back the contour where the cowl doors of the aircraft, touch.

The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK/SUBTASK numbers are in the SPM.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-25-110-054 Clean the Rubber Fire Seal

      1. Chemically clean the joint and pushed in areas of the rubber fire seal.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501, SUBTASK 70-36-02-360-013.

      3. Use a clean cloth made moist with CoMat 01-001 SOLVENT, DELETED.

      4. Make sure that all joint and pushed in areas are made clean.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-25-220-062 Examine the Rubber Fire Seal

      1. Visually examine the rubber fire seal joints for sealant that is not there.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-38-25-200-001 for inspection standards.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-25-350-053 Prepare the Rubber Fire Seal

      1. CAUTION

        CARE MUST BE TAKEN WHEN YOU HAND CLEAN THE JOINT SURFACES, THAT THE SEALANT WHICH IS IN PLACE, DOES NOT GET MORE DAMAGE.

        Make rough the surfaces for repair, as necessary.

      1. Clean the surfaces for repair, as necessary.

      2. Use a clean cloth made moist with CoMat 01-126 XYLENE THINNERS C6H4(CH3)2.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-25-360-051 Apply the Sealant to the Surfaces for Repair

      1. CAUTION

        CARE MUST BE TAKEN NOT TO CAUSE A BLOCKAGE IN THE AIR HOLES OF THE RUBBER FIRE SEAL.

        Apply a thin layer of primer to the surfaces for repair, as necessary.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501, SUBTASK 70-36-02-360-020.

      3. Use CoMat 08-014 PRIMER, SILICONE ADHESIVE/SEALANT, dry in air for 30 minutes.

      1. NOTE

        Sufficient silicone compound must be applied to close the joints and put back the contour of the rubber fire seal.

        Apply the silicone compound, from the tube with an applicator nozzle, to the mating surfaces, as necessary.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501, SUBTASK 70-36-02-360-020.

      1. Remove any unwanted silicone compound from the repaired areas.

      2. The silicone compound has to be flush and smooth with the contour of the rubber fire seal.

      3. Use a clean cloth made moist with CoMat 01-126 XYLENE THINNERS C6H4(CH3)2.

      1. NOTE

        The parts can be touched after 12 hours.

        Cure the silicone compound.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501, SUBTASK 70-36-02-360-020.

      3. Cure at 68 deg.F. (20 deg.C.), in air for 48 hours.

      4. Do not apply a load during this time.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-25-220-063 Examine the Rubber Fire Seal

      1. Visually examine the silicone compound around the repaired areas.

      2. No holes should be seen at the joints.

      3. The repaired areas must be smooth with the rubber fire seal contour, where the cowl doors of the aircraft touch.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-25-350-054 Identify the Repair

      1. Make a mark the VRS6377 adjacent to the assembly number.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501, SUBTASK 70-09-00-400-001.
