Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-11-325-061 Remove Material from the Damaged Seal Fin

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Remove material from the damaged seal fin (refer to the limits given in Step).

      2. Remove sufficient material to remove the damage.

      3. Do not remove material from the seal fin land.

      1. Limits.

        1. For fins Locations 1001, 1002, 1003, and 1004:

          1. Areas of fin on the multi-fin seals can be removed up to a maximum limit of 30 degrees of any one fin. The maximum number of fins from which this quantity of material can be removed is as follows:

          2. A seal with three fins can have one fin repaired.

          3. A seal with four fins can have two fins repaired.

        1. For fins Location 1004 only (below limits are applicable for the PNs 6A8316, 6B1386 and 6B1404 only):

        2. If any one of the three seal fins is accepted by Step 11.E (4) (d) of inspection TASK 72-41-11-200-001-B00, SUBTASK 72-41-11-220-083 but has an irregular profile, blend and polish to remove high spots and burrs only to a maximum of 360 degrees. See Figure.

        3. If the material shows a change in color, to darker than a light straw color, the component is to be rejected.

      2. Material can be removed from the other fins where necessary when the side AC x AD removed from each fin is not more than 0.025 sqin. (0.16 sqcm).

      3. Removal of material can be extended across all the fins on a multi-fin seal when the side area AC x AD removed from each fin is not more than 0.025 sqin. (0.16 sqcm).

      4. Material must be removed smoothly to keep the seal contour near to the initial shape.

      5. Deburr, blend and polish the area of repair.

      6. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-11-110-092 Do a Swab Etch

      1. Chemically clean.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-08-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-08-300-001.

      1. Swab etch the repair area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-08-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-08-300-002.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-11-220-238 Binocular Examine

      1. Binocular examine the repair area.

      2. Use 3 - 10X binoculars.

      3. Indications of surface defects are not permitted.
