NONESafety Requirements
NONEProcedure
Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.
Cracks are not permitted.
Do a local penetrant crack test of the area to be repaired.
SUBTASK 72-41-11-230-088 Do a Crack Test
Make sure the limits given in Step can be achieved.
If limits cannot be achieved, reject.
Visually and dimensionally examine the retaining slots at stages 3, 4 and 5 for damage and previous blend repairs.
Mark the location and circumferential length of the damage.
Marking are to be visible when the retaining plates and lock plates are installed in Step
NOTE
Consider the post repair dimensions, blend depth and blend ratio.Mark adjacent surface with the location and circumferential length of previous blend repairs.
Mark the location of damage and previous blend repairs.
SUBTASK 72-41-11-220-230 Examine the Area(s) to be Repaired
Refer to Figure.
NOTE
If there is one blend indication or damaged area per stage, this SUBTASK does not need to be done on that stage. If there are no blend indication(s) or damaged area(s) on a stage, this SUBTASK does not need to be done on that stage. To do this SUBTASK the drum must be orientated in the vertical position with the retaining slot uppermost. The orientation will vary depending on the stage affected. The function of this SUBTASK is to make sure that the limits can be met.
Make sure that after repair, the retaining plates can be installed spanning all blended areas on the stage.
If it is not possible to span all the blended areas with a retaining plate, reject.
Blades do not need to be installed in this TASK. Locking of the lock plates is not necessary. This TASK can be done by resting the plates in position, refer to installation TASK 72-41-10-440-003-A00.
NOTE
If the depth of dressing at AE on stage 3 is larger than 0.079 in. (2.00 mm), then a long retaining plate must be installed over the damage.Replicate the installation of the lock plates and retaining plates.
SUBTASK 72-41-11-440-054 Trial Install the Lock Plates and the Reatining Plates

CAUTION
TITANIUM COMPONENT - YOU MUST USE SILICON CARBIDE TYPE ABRASIVE WHEELS, STONES AND PAPERS TO DRESS, BLEND AND POLISH THIS COMPONENT.
CAUTION
TITANIUM COMPONENT - AVOID BUILD UP OF HEAT BY APPLYING ONLY GENTLE PRESSURE AND KEEPING THE TOOL SPEED AS LOW AS POSSIBLE. USE TECHNIQUES WHICH ALLOW FOR PROGRESSIVE WEAR OF THE DRESSING MEDIA TO PRESENT A CONTINUALLY FRESH CUTTING SURFACE TO THE WORK PIECE.
CAUTION
DO NOT DWELL ON ONE AREA OF THE COMPONENT.
CAUTION
DRESS, WHERE POSSIBLE, IN A CIRCULAR MOTION, TAKING LIGHT CUTS TO AVOID OVERHEATING.
CAUTION
TITANIUM COMPONENT - MAXIMUM SPEED FOR MECHANICAL TOOLS MUST NOT EXCEED 1000 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE.
CAUTION
TITANIUM COMPONENT - YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOU REMOVE MATERIAL, BLEND AND POLISH, TO MAKE SMOOTH, THAT NO SPARKS ARE PRODUCED AND THE ADJACENT AREA IS MASKED OFF.
CAUTION
TITANIUM COMPONENT - IF THE MATERIAL SHOWS A CHANGE IN COLOR DURING DRESSING, TO DARKER THAN A LIGHT STRAW COLOR, THE COMPONENT IS TO BE REJECTED.Remove no more material than is necessary, refer to Step
Refer to SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.
