This Repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in 72-41-21 inspection.

This TASK gives the procedure to replace the damaged rotor path linings on the HP compressor stage 10 rotor path ring.

TASKS identified by SPM TASK are in the Standard Practices and Processes Manual (SPM).

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-325-057-A00 Remove the Abradable Lining, Assembly A

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Assemble the fixture on the machine.

      2. Use Lifting beam 1 off and Turning fixture 1 off with a lathe.

      3. Set to turn correctly.

      4. Use a dial test indicator.

      1. Assemble the rotor path ring on the turning fixture and machine to remove abradable lining.

      2. Turn to remove lining.

      3. You must not remove material from the rotor path ring.

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Assemble the fixture on the machine.

      2. Use Lifting beam 1 off and Turning fixture 1 off with a lathe.

      3. You must not remove material from the rotor path ring.

      This SUBTASK is an alternative procedure to Step.

      Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Chemically remove the lining material.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-59-300-503, SUBTASK 70-33-59-300-002.

      3. Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-120-053 Abrasive Blast the Repair Area(s)

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Lightly dry blast the repaired area(s) to fully remove the lining.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-12-02-120-501.

      3. Use abrasive blast equipment.

    3. Remove the masks.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-110-125 Cold Ferric Chloride Etch

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Swab etch the repaired area(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-39-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-39-300-001.

      1. Visually examine and measure the dimensions of the repaired area(s).

      2. Make sure the damaged lining is fully removed.

      1. Do a penetrant crack test of the repaired area(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

      3. Use penetrant crack test equipment.

      4. No cracks are permitted.

      1. Chemically clean the rotor path ring.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

      3. Use chemical cleaning equipment.

      DO NOT TOUCH SURFACE(S) TO BE REPAIRED AFTER THEY ARE CLEANED.

      CAUTION

      TOO MUCH ABRASIVE BLAST CAN CAUSE DETERIORATION OF THE PREPARED SURFACE CONDITION AND MUST BE PREVENTED.
    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Abrasive blast the area(s) to be sprayed.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-12-02-120-501.

      3. Use abrasive blast equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-340-053 Apply the Abradable Lining

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Apply the bond coat.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-01-340-501, SUBTASK 70-34-01-340-025 and SUBTASK 70-34-01-340-010.

      3. Alternatively for the wire feed combustion spray gun use CoMat 03-036 METAL SPRAYING WIRE, Ni,Al.

      4. Use metal spray equipment.

      5. Pre-heat the seal ring to 221 to 257 deg F (105 to 125 deg C).

      6. Apply a thickness of 0.004 to 0.007 in (0.10 to 0.18 mm).

      1. Apply the abradable lining.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-01-340-501, SUBTASK 70-34-01-340-029.

      3. Use metal spray equipment.

    3. Remove the masks.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-220-213 Examine the Rotor Path Lining

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Visually examine the sprayed coating on the ring.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-01-340-501.

      1. Measure the repaired dimensions.

      2. Use workshop inspection equipment.

      1. Hardness test the sprayed coating.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-01-340-501, SUBTASK 70-34-01-340-004.

      3. The average hardness must be 45 to 55 R15Y outer limits of 40 minimum and 60 maximum.

      4. Use a hardness tester.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-350-066 Identify the Repair

      1. Identify VRS6022 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501, SUBTASK 70-09-00-400-001.

      3. Use vibro-engraving equipment.
