This Repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in 72-41-32 Inspection/Check.

This Repair lets you Repair a worn or damaged pivot jounal(s) on the HP Compressor Variable Stator Vane, Stage 6, by metal spray.

The practices and processes referred to in the procedures by the TASK/SUBTASK numbers, are in the SPM

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-110-104 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 72-11-01-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-230-087 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test.

        1. Refer to SPM TASK 72-23-04-230-501.

        2. Use penetrant crack test equipment.

        3. Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-220-165 Examine the HP Compressor Variable Stator Vane, Stage 6

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Examine the HP Compressor Variable Stator Vane, Stage 6, Pivot Journal(s), for repair.

      NOTE

      1. The minimum worn or damaged diameter of the outer pivot journal, diameter AC, that can be repaired is 0.4595 in (11.672 mm).

      2. The minimum worn or damaged diameter of the inner pivot journal, diameter AD, that can be repaired is 0.3808 in (9.672 mm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-325-059 Remove Damage from the HP Compressor Variable Stator Vane, Stage 6

      CAUTION

      DO NOT REMOVE MATERIAL FROM THE HP COMPRESSOR VARIABLE STATOR VANE, STAGE 6, RADII.
    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Set up the HP Compressor Variable Stator Vane, Stage 6, to run true.

      2. Use a lathe and a dial test indicator.

      1. Turn to remove damage and/or wear from pivot journal(s).

      2. Only clean up sufficiently to give a good clean diameter.

        NOTE

        1. The minimum diameter of the outer pivot journal, diameter AC, after you have removed wear and/or damage is 0.4585 in (11.646 mm).

        2. The minimum diameter of the inner pivot journal, diameter AD, after you have removed wear and/or damage is 0.3798in (9.646mm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-220-166 Examine the HP Compressor Variable Stator Vane, Stage 6

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Measure the dimensions of the HP Compressor Variable Stator Vane, Stage 6.

      2. Make sure that the dimensions after you have machined are within the limits specified.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-110-105 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-01-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-110-106 Cold Ferric Chloride Etch

      1. Swab etch the repaired area(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-39-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-39-300-001.

        Use Chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-230-088 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test on the repair area(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-04-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

      2. NOTE

        The adhesive tape permits the blasting and the sprayed coat to be done in one operation.
      1. Abrasive blast the surfaces to be repaired.

      CAUTION

      1. Apply the metal spray to the HP Compressor Variable Stator Vane, Stage 6, pivot journal(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-01-340-501, SUBTASK 70-34-01-340-014.

        Apply a layer of sufficient thickness to get the correct dimensions after the component is machined.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-340-065-B00 Apply the Metal Spray Coat, Assembly B

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Apply the metal spray to the HP Compressor Variable Stator Vane, Stage 6, pivot journal(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-01-340-501, SUBTASK 70-34-01-340-014.

        Apply a layer of sufficient thickness to get the correct dimensions after the component is machined.

    3. Grind the pivot journal(s) to the dimensions given.

      NOTE

      Put back the radii as necessary.

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Set up the HP Compressor Variable Stator Vane, Stage 6, to run true.

    3. Grind the pivot journal(s) to the dimensions given.

      Put back the radii as necessary.
