Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-110-111 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-41-34-100-000 (CLEANING-000).

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-230-173 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-03-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-350-099 Remove Damage Area(s)

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Remove area(s) of damage as necessary.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        Make sure damage marks are fully removed.

      1. General area.

      2. The maximum depth to remove the damage must not be more than 0.030 in. (0.76 mm).

        The diameter of the area removed must be 50 times its depth.

      1. Clevis leg inner face.

      2. Not more than 0.63 in. (16 mm) of hole diameter - do not dress damage.

        Remove raised metal only.

        More than 0.63 in. (16 mm) of hole diameter - dress damage not more than 0.018 in. (0.46 mm) in depth.

        Dress damage contour smooth and not less than 10:1 minimum blend ratio.

      1. Blend the area(s) of repair.

      1. General area.

      2. Make sure the dressing marks are fully removed and the repaired area is blended smooth into the adjacent surfaces.

      1. Clevis leg inner face.

      2. Do not blend, break sharp edge only around repaired areas and hole.

      1. Polish the area(s) of repair.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        Polish the repaired area(s) to remove all marks, scratches and to give a surface finish the same as of adjacent surface.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-220-232 Examine the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Do a visual and dimensional inspection of the repaired area(s).

      2. Use workshop inspection equipment.

        Make sure the surface finish is the same as of adjacent surface.

      1. General area.

      2. Make sure the depth of repair is 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) maximum.

      1. Clevis leg inner face.

      2. Make sure the depth of repair is 0.018 in. (0.46 mm) maximum.

        Width and length of repair unrestricted.

        Seating area around hole diameter is 0.63 in. (16 mm) - no raised metal.

        Maximum permitted surface damage is 0.001 in. (0.03 mm) in depth.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-110-112 Do a Swab Etch

      1. Chemically clean and swab etch the repaired area(s).

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-39-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-230-094 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-350-163 Identify the Repair

      1. Make a mark VRS6187 on the part adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501, SUBTASK 70-09-00-400-001.

        Use vibro engraving equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-380-060 Reprotect the Shaft as necessary

      NOTE

      This SUBTASK is applicable to part numbers 6A3805, 6A4316 and 6A5889 only.
      1. Re-apply high heat resisting enamel.

      2. Refer to Repair, VRS6391 TASK 72-41-34-300-055 (REPAIR-055).
