This Repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in 72-41-34 Inspection.

The TASK gives the procedure to repair the vane actuating crank shaft by re-applying surface protection.

TASKs identified by SPM TASK are in the Standard Practices and Processes Manual (SPM).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-110-074 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean the part.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

      1. Remove existing enamel.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-05-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-230-673 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test of the part.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

        Use penetrant crack test euipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-110-146 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean the part.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

      CAUTION

      UNMASKED SURFACES MUST NOT BE TOUCHED WITH BARE HANDS. CLEAN POLYTHENE OR COTTON GLOVES MUST BE WORN.

      CAUTION

      IF SURFACES MUST BE TOUCHED OR IF SURFACES ARE DIRTY, DO Step AND Step AGAIN.
      1. Dry abrasive blast the areas to have protection.

    2. Remove masking tape.

      1. Remove all unwanted abrasive medium.

      2. Use clean, dry compressed air blast.

      1. Mask areas not to have protection.

      1. Apply protection.

        Use overhaul process equipment.
