This repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in TASK 72-41-34 (INSPECTION/CHECK).

Use TASK 72-41-34-300-025 to replace damaged bushes.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-110-138 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-41-34-100-000 (CLEANING-000).

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-230-077 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

        Use penetrant crack test equipment.

        No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-350-053 Remove the Damage

      CAUTION

      TITANIUM COMPONENT - YOU MUST USE SILICON CARBIDE TYPE ABRASIVE WHEELS, STONES AND PAPERS TO DRESS, BLEND AND POLISH THIS COMPONENT.

      CAUTION

      TITANIUM COMPONENT - DO NOT USE FORCE WITH MECHANICAL CUTTERS OR THE MATERIAL WILL BECOME TOO HOT.

      CAUTION

      TITANIUM COMPONENT - MAXIMUM SPEED FOR MECHANICAL TOOLS MUST NOT BE MORE THAN 1000 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE.

      CAUTION

      TITANIUM COMPONENT - YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOU REMOVE MATERIAL, BLEND AND POLISH, TO MAKE SMOOTH, THAT NO SPARKS ARE PRODUCED.

      CAUTION

      TITANIUM COMPONENT - IF THE MATERIAL SHOWS A CHANGE IN COLOR, TO DARKER THAN A LIGHT STRAW COLOR, THE COMPONENT IS TO BE REJECTED.
    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove the area(s) of damage as necessary.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        The maximum depth to remove the damage must not be more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).

        The diameter of the repaired area is to be 50 times the depth.

        Make sure all the damage marks are fully removed.

      1. Blend the area(s) of repair.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        Make sure the damage marks are fully removed and the area is made smooth to the adjacent material.

      1. Polish the area(s) of repair.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        Polish to remove dressing marks and to give a surface finish the same as the adjacent material.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-220-184 Examine the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do a visual inspection.

      2. Make sure the surface finish is the same as the adjacent material.

        Use workshop inspection equipment.

      1. Do a dimensional inspection.

      2. Make sure the maximum depth of the repair is not more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).

        If more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm), reject.

    1. SUBTASK 70-41-34-110-001 Do a Swab Etch

      1. Chemically clean.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-08-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-08-300-001.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

      1. Swab etch the repaired area(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-08-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-08-300-002.

        NOTE

        Make sure the etching solution is applied only to the actuating ring connector surface and does not contact the bushes.
    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-230-078 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test on the repaired area(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Use penetrant crack test equipment.

        No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-350-194 Identify the Repair

      1. Vibro-engrave VRS6191 on the part adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501, SUBTASK 70-09-00-400-001.

        Use vibro engraving equipment.
