Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-320-082 Machine No. 4 Cooling Tube Outer Surfaces

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the outer tube surfaces.

      2. Remove the least amount of material. Do not go below 0.540 in. (13.72 mm) diameter.

      1. Examine the outer tube surfaces.

        1. Diameter is less than 0.540 in. (13.72 mm) or damage is present when diameter is 0.540 in. (13.72 mm).

        2. Do not continue this repair. Repair by VRS3643, (Repair-017)TASK 72-42-20-300-017 .

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-330-007 Nickel Plating of Machined Surface

      1. Nickel plate machined surface not more than 0.576 in. (14.63 mm) diameter.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-33-25-300-503.

        NOTE

        Plating is permitted outside machined area but must be removed. No plating permitted in seal grooves.
    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-320-083 Finish Machine Outer Tube Surfaces

      1. Finish machine outer tube surfaces to between 0.556 and 0.560 in. (14.12 and 14.22 mm) diameter.

      2. Refer to Figure.

        NOTE

        Maintain a minimum wall thickness of 0.070 in. (1.78 mm).
    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-320-084 Machine the Seal Grooves For Oversize Piston Rings

      1. Measure width of the seal ring groove at the wear location.

      2. Refer to Figure.

        NOTE

        Wear can be uneven on groove surfaces.
      1. Wear is more than 0.003 in. (0.08 mm).

      2. Machine to subsequent oversize groove width.

      3. Refer to Figure and Figure.

        NOTE

        The minimum wall thickness on the side of the groove after material removal must not be less than 0.040 in. (1.02 mm).
        1. Break edge not more than 0.003 in. (0.08 mm).

        2. Refer to Figure.

        1. Modified radius between 0.005 and 0.015 in. (0.13 and 0.38 mm).
