If the heatshield is going to be replaced as given in Repair, VRS3022, (Repair-002) TASK 72-42-20-300-002 you can do Repair 002 at the same time as this repair. The stress-relief cycle for both repairs can be done at the same time.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-320-071 Machine the Damaged Area of the Cooling Tube

      1. Machine the damaged area to remove wear indications or areas of distress.

      2. Remove the minimum amount of parent material necessary to remove the damage.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-110-122 Clean the Area to be Repaired

      1. NOTE

        Do not immerse the part.

        Clean the repair area of the tube.

      2. Do the procedure in SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

      3. Wipe the area as given in SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503 immediately before you weld the repair area.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-310-052 Weld Repair the Worn Area of the No. 4 Bearing Cooling Tube

      1. Weld the area to be repaired by manual gas tungsten arc welding.

      2. Do the procedure in SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

      3. Use sufficient weld material to permit machining to finished dimensions given in Figure and Figure.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-370-001 Stress-Relieve the No. 4 Bearing Cooling Tube

      1. Stress-relieve the tube.

      2. Do the procedure in SPM TASK 70-37-01-370-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-320-072 Finish Machine the Weld Repaired Area of the No. 4 Bearing Cooling Tube

      1. Finish machine the weld repaired area of the tube.

      2. Finish machine to the dimensions given in Figure and Figure.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-110-123 Clean the No. 4 Bearing Cooling Tube

      1. Clean the tube.

      2. Do the procedure in SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-230-073 Do a Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection of the Repaired Area of the No. 4 Bearing Cooling Tube

      CAUTION

      THE TUBE ASSEMBLY HAS FIBER INSULATION INSIDE THE HEATSHIELD. DO NOT IMMERSE THE TUBE IN OR MAKE THE INSULATION DAMP WITH FPI FLUID.
      1. Do a fluorescent penetrant inspection of the tube assembly.

      2. Do the procedure in SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501.

      3. No cracks are permitted.
