Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-350-056 Remove the Tube Coupling Nut and Thrust Wire from the No.4 Bearing Cooling Tube

      1. Remove the tube coupling nut and thrust wire. Discard the thrust wire.

      2. Refer to Figure.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-350-057 Remove the No.4 Bearing Heatshield

      1. Grind the weld which holds the heatshield to the tube. Remove and discard the heatshield.

      2. Refer to Figure.

    2. Grind the remaining weld from the tube until the weld is flush with the base metal of the tube.

      1. Clean the repair area.

      2. Use a Silicon carbide rag wheel or equivalent.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-230-072 Examine the Repair Area

      1. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the repair area.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-310-051 Weld the New No.4 Bearing Heatshield to the No.4 Bearing Cooling Tube

      1. Weld the new 2A3136 HEATSHIELD - NO. 4 BEARING TUBE to the tube.

      2. Refer to Figure. Use the manual gas tungsten arc method.

      3. Refer to SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

        NOTE

        The fusion weld location can vary + 0.060in. (1.524 mm).
    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-370-051 Stress-Relieve the No.4 Bearing Cooling Tube

      1. Stress-relieve the tube.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-37-01-370-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-350-058 Blend the Repair Area

      1. Blend the surface of the weld to remove scratches, grind marks or discontinuities.

      2. Use a Silicon carbide rag wheel or equivalent.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-350-059 Install the Tube Coupling Nut and Thrust Wire to the No.4 Bearing Cooling Tube

      1. Install the coupling nut with the new AS15782 WIRE, THRUST.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Position the wire in the hole in the nut. Use a Mallet or an Air hammers and an Anvil to move the thrust wire into position.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-220-116 Examine the Repair

      1. Examine the tube after repair.

      2. Refer to Inspection-000 TASK 72-42-20-100-100.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-350-060 Identify the Repair

      1. Make a mark VRS3022 on the repaired No.4 bearing cooling tube adjacent to part number .

      2. Make a permanent mark by the procedure given in SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

      3. Use a Vibrating marking pencil. Remove high metal caused by marking the number.
