Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-50-110-055 Clean the HPT Cooling Duct Deflector

      1. Clean the deflector.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-44-50-100-000 (CLEANING-000).

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-50-350-067 Remove Damage in Welds and in the Sheet Metal before Weld Repair

    2. Route out cracks in areas to be welded.

      1. Surface clean all nicks, scratches, dents, and erosion, and areas where you routed out cracks.

      2. Use a CoMat 02-263 GRINDING WHEEL or equivalent to clean areas to be welded.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-50-310-051 Weld to Repair Damage in the HPT Cooling Duct Deflector

      1. Weld to repair the cracks you routed out, nicks, scratches, dents, and erosion in the deflector.

      2. Use CoMat 03-284 WELDING FILLER WIRE, NiBASE and the manual gas tungsten (GTAW-MA) method.

      3. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-31-02-310-501-001.

      1. Machine to make the welded area smooth.

      2. The welded area must be the same contour as the adjacent area.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-50-260-051 X-Ray Inspect the HPT Cooling Duct Deflector

      1. NOTE

X-ray inspection is the recommended method for the inspection of cracks in the HPT cooling duct deflector. If you cannot do X-ray inspection, you can do one of the fluorescent penetrant inspections that follow.

X-ray inspect the deflector for stress cracks in the weld and in the sheet metal that is adjacent to the weld area. No cracks are permitted.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-26-01-260-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-50-230-066 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspect the HPT Cooling Duct Deflector

      1. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the deflector for stress cracks in the weld and in the sheet metal that is adjacent to the weld area. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-50-370-051 Stress Relieve the HPT Cooling Duct Deflector

      1. Stress relieve the deflector after welding.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-37-01-370-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-50-230-067 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspect the HPT Cooling Duct Deflector After Stress Relief

      1. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the deflector for stress cracks in the weld and in the sheet metal that is adjacent to the weld area. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-50-220-076 Examine the HPT Cooling Duct Deflector After Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do a dimension and visual inspection of the deflector after repair.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-44-50-200-002 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-001) and maintain the dimensions given in the figure.
