Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-11-350-066 Remove All the Stage 1 HPT Hub Metering Plugs

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove and discard all of the stage 1 HPT metering plugs HPT Stage 1 Hub (72-45-11, 01-040).

      1. If the metering plugs are missing, damaged, and/or have missing or cracked tangs, inspect the No. 4 bearing rear carbon seal. Refer to TASK 72-43-20-200-002. Report all findings to IAE Technical Services.

    2. SUBTASK 72-45-11-220-106 Examine the Stage 1 Turbine Hub Metering Plug Hole

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Examine the hub metering plug holes for galling.

      1. Surface damage up to 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) is permitted without repair.

    3. SUBTASK 72-45-11-350-067 Install the Stage 1 HPT Hub Metering Plug

      CAUTION

      DO NOT USE THE OLD METERING PLUGS AGAIN. MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL ONLY NEW METERING PLUGS.

      CAUTION

      FAILURE TO CORRECTLY INSTALL STAGE 1 HPT METERING PLUGS CAN RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.

    1. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      2. Install the new Stage 1 metering plugs into inner side of Stage 1 turbine hub holes.

      1. Install 11 or 12 metering plugs as instructed during your check of reference number 1516 fit.

      2. Use IAE 1P16494 Installation fixture as shown in Figure or IAE 1P17763 Metering plug drift as shown in Figure to seat the metering plugs in the holes of the hub.

      3. Make sure the metering plug tangs touch the outer side of the hub hole.

    4. SUBTASK 72-45-11-220-107 Examine the Repair

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Inspect the installed metering plugs.

      1. Make sure the metering plug tangs touch the outer side of the hub hole.
