This repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in TASK 72-45-24-200-000 (INSPECTION-000).

CoMat 07-057 SLURRY, ALUMINIUM-SILICON or CoMat 02-183 ALUMINIDE COATING - LOCALIZED APPLICATION, LOW ACTIVITY can be used to repair the stage 2 HPT ring segment and vane cluster that has coating that is chipped, damaged or not there in a local area on the airfoil and the inner diameter platform. Also do this repair to restore the coating on the blended airfoils. The total vane airfoil and inner diameter platform area to be coated is a maximum of 0.500 sqin (3.226 sqcm).

This repair must only be done when there is no oxidation or corrosion shown on the base material.

This repair must only be done one time for each vane.

Do not use CoMat 07-057 SLURRY, ALUMINIUM-SILICON and CoMat 02-183 ALUMINIDE COATING - LOCALIZED APPLICATION, LOW ACTIVITY or this repair when you replace all the primary coating on the vane.

The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by TASK numbers are in the SPM.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-24-350-051-001 Touch-Up the Stage 2 HPT Ring Segment and Vane Cluster Airfoil and the Inner Diameter Platform Coating with the Cobalt Aluminum Slurry

      1. Prepare and touch-up the vane airfoil and the inner diameter platform coating.

      2. Refer to Figure.

        Do the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-38-26-380-501 except diffusion heat treat the vane assembly to between 1475 and 1525 deg F (802 and 829 deg C).

        Mask the ceramic coating on the outer diameter platforms.

        No touch-up coating is permitted in less than 0.150in. (3.81 mm) area of the ceramic coating on the outer diameter platforms.

        The maximum total vane airfoil and inner diameter platform area to be coated is 0.500 sqin. (3.226 sqcm).

      1. Do a heat tint inspection on the repaired vane.

      2. Refer to the Heat Tint Inspection in TASK 72-45-24-200-002 (INSPECTION/CHECK-002, CONFIG-001, CONFIG-002, CONFIG-003 and CONFIG-004).

        If the heat tint inspection is unsatisfactory, do the touch-up coating repair again.

      1. Examine the trailing-edge cooling air slots.

      2. Refer to Figure.

        All cooling air slots must be at the minimum diameter.

        If applicable open all the slots to the minimum diameter.

        Refer to the Repair, VRS3317 TASK 72-45-24-300-010 (REPAIR-010).

      1. If applicable, remove the material from the trailing edge cooling air slots if the vane was repaired by VRS3317 TASK 72-45-24-300-010 (REPAIR-010).

      2. Water flush the vane cooling air slots to remove all the blockage material.

      1. If applicable do an airflow check on the vane cluster assembly if the touch-up coating was applied in less than 0.500in. (12.7 mm) of the trailing-edge cooling air slots or repaired by VRS3317 TASK 72-45-24-300-010 (REPAIR-010).

      2. Refer to TASK 72-45-24-200-002 (INSPECTION/CHECK-002, CONFIG-001, CONFIG-002, CONFIG-003 and CONFIG-004).

      1. Examine the repaired vane cluster airfoil and the inner diameter platform.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Identify the repair. Make a mark VRS3217 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Make a permanent mark by the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-24-350-051-002 Touch-Up the Stage 2 HPT Ring Segment and Vane Cluster Airfoil and the Inner Diameter Platform Coating with the Aluminum-Silicon Slurry

      1. Prepare and touch-up the vane airfoil and the inner diameter platform coating.

      2. Refer to Figure.

        Do the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-38-14-380-501 except diffusion heat treat the vane assembly to between 1475 and 1525 deg F (802 and 829 deg C).

        Mask the ceramic coating on the outer diameter platforms.
