General

Refer to TASK 72-50-10-030-001 (Prepare for Disassembly) before you do this TASK.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Remove and discard the lockwire before parts are disconnected or removed.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and keywashers removed in this procedure.

Refer to TASK 72-50-00-990-501 for a sectional view of the LP turbine module.

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-140 Turn the Lifting Ring of the Assembly/Disassembly Fixture in to the Up Position

    1. Turn the lifting ring of the IAE 1M14010 Assembly/Disassembly fixture 1 off in to the up position.

    2. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-141 Install the Protector Ring Segments

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Install the IAE 1M14124 Protector ring segment 3 off between the stage 7 vanes inner platforms and the stage 6 blades roots.

    3. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-070 Remove the Stage 7 Vane Segments, and 72-50-10-990-017

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Bend the wire ends of the 16 shroud seal locking wires back. Remove the locking wires.

    3. Remove the stage 7 shroud seal. Pull the stage 7 vane segment rearwards out of the turbine case. Keep the stage 6 vane segment with the IAE 1M14094 Retaining block 1 off. Install the retaining blocks at the joint of the stage 6 vanes. Do this procedure with all 32 vane segments.

    4. Put the shroud seals and the vane segments in baskets.

    4. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-142 Remove the Protector Ring Segments

    2. Remove the three protector ring segments.
