Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-156 Machine the Inner Diameter of the Rear Outer Flange

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove existing plasma spray on inner diameter if applicable.

      2. Machine the inner diameter of the rear outer flange. Machine inner diameter to remove wear or damage. Keep the removal of parent material to a minimum. The inner diameter must be between 33.0296 and 33.0682 in. (838.952 and 839.932 mm) after removal of the damage.

        The finished coating thickness must be 0.003 in. (0.08 mm) minimum.

        NOTE

        If the machined diameter after damage removal is between 33.0556 and 33.0682 in. (839.612 and 839.932 mm) you must use CoMat 07-123 WIRE.
    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-132 Examine the Surfaces to be Coated

      1. Do a fluorescent penetrant inspection of the inner diameter of the rear outer flange for cracks.

      2. No cracks permitted.

        NOTE

        This step is required if the method of machining used in Step (4) was grinding. For all other methods, this step is optional.
    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-340-058 Prepare the Inner Diameter of the Rear Outer Flange for Coating

      1. Prepare surface for plasma and other thermal spray.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-18-380-501.

      1. Mask the areas of the turbine exhaust case not to be sprayed.

      2. No coating is permitted in the holes.

      1. CAUTION

        PLASMA SPRAY THE INNER DIAMETER WITHIN TWO HOURS OF BLASTING TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF PREPARED SURFACE. REPEAT GRIT BLAST PROCEDURE IF THIS TIME LIMIT IS EXCEEDED.

        Clean the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Clean with dry air blast. Handle case with clean, lint-free gloves after cleaning.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-340-059 Plasma Spray Inner Diameter of Rear Outer Flange

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Plasma spray the inner diameter of the rear outer flange. Apply plasma spray to a sufficient thickness to permit finishing to the figure dimensions.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-03-340-501.

        Use CoMat 03-096 PLASMA SPRAY POWDER if finished coating thickness is less than 0.015 in. (0.38 mm). Use CoMat 07-123 WIRE if over 0.015 in. (0.38 mm) thick coating is necessary.

        Finished coating thickness must be 0.003 in. (0.08 mm) minimum.

        No overspray is permitted.

    3. Remove mask and clean remaining masking adhesive.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-157 Finish Machine the Inner Diameter of the Rear Outer Flange

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter of the rear outer flange.

      2. The inner diameter of the rear outer flange must be between 33.0182 and 33.0236 in. (838.662 and 838.800 mm).

        Minimum coating thickness requirement is 0.003 in. (0.08 mm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-246 Examine the Repair

      1. Visually examine the coated area.

      2. Chips, cracks, lifted material or coating that is not attached to the base metal are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-197 Identify the Repair

      1. Vibration peen VRS3731 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

        Use the vibration peen method with 0.006 in. (0.15 mm) maximum depth.
