Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-103 Machine the Diameter of the Bearing Bore

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. If there is chromium plate.

      2. Remove the chromium plate that is on the part by the SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501. If chromium plate is not removed fully by the SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501, then you do a grind operation to remove the chromium plate.

      1. If there is no chromium plate, machine the diameter of the bearing bore before chromium plate.

      2. Machine the bearing bore to remove wear and damage.

Keep material removal to a minimum so the plating will be 0.002 to 0.008 in. (0.051 to 0.203 mm) thick after finish machining.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-110-194 Clean the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Clean the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-092 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. If you did grind operation to remove chromium plate then you do a local fluorescent penetrant inspection of the repair area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

Use medium sensitivity, water washable. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-110-195 Clean the Repair Area of Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Clean the repair area locally.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-330-067 Shot Peen the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Shot peen the surface to be plated.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501.

        NOTE

The shot peen procedure is optional. Parts that are shot peened do not have to be baked.
    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-330-068 Chromium Plate the Bearing Bore of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Apply a mask to the areas not to be plated.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-24-300-503.

      1. Chromium plate the bearing bore.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501.

Apply the plating to a sufficient thickness to permit finish machining.

        NOTE

Plating outside the designated area is permitted but must be removed.
    3. Remove the mask.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-075 Bake the Turbine Exhaust Case after Chromium Plate

      1. Bake after chromium plate.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501.

This procedure can be omitted if you have shot peened the case.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-275 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Do a visual inspection of the plate for finish and bond.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-220-502.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-104 Grind the Bearing Bore after Chromium Plate

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Do a grind operation of the bearing bore after chromium plate.

      2. The diameter must be 5.521 to 5.523 in. (140.234 to 140.284 mm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-110-196 Clean the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Clean the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-203 Examine the Repair

      1. Visually examine the plated area for cracks and plating that is not attached to the base metal.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-220-502.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-222 Identify the Repair

      1. Mark VRS3113 on the repaired turbine exhaust case adjacent to the part number.

      2. Make a permanent mark by the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501. Use vibration peen procedure. Remove high material caused by marking the number.
