    2. Install plugs into the holes around the repair area before you machine the No. 5 bearing shoulder.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-086 Machine the No. 5 Bearing Shoulder of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. If there is chromium plate:

      2. Remove the chromium plate that is on the part by the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503. If chromium plate was not removed fully by the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503, then you do a grind operation to remove the chromium plate.

      1. If there is no chromium plate, machine the No. 5 bearing shoulder.

      2. The dimension from the bearing shoulder to Surface A must be 4.554 in. (115.67 mm) maximum.

Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove damage, make the surface smooth and to permit sufficient plating thickness.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-110-197 Clean the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Clean the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-149 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. If you did a grind operation to remove chromium plate, then you do a local fluorescent penetrant inspection of the repair area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Use medium sensitivity, water washable.

        No cracks permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-110-198 Clean the Repair Area of Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Clean the repair area locally.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-330-062 Chromium Plate the No. 5 Bearing Shoulder of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply a mask or maskants to the areas not to be plated.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-24-380-501.

      1. Chromium plate the No. 5 bearing shoulder.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

Apply chromium plate to a sufficient thickness to permit finish machining.

Plating thickness after finish machining must be 0.002 to 0.008 in. (0.05 to 0.20 mm).

Plating outside the repair area is permitted but must be removed.

    3. Remove the mask or maskants.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-070 Bake after Chromium Plate

      1. Bake the turbine exhaust case after chromium plate.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-276 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Do a visual inspection of the plate for finish and bond.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-220-502.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-087 Grind the No. 5 Bearing Shoulder of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Do a grind operation of the No. 5 bearing shoulder after chromium plate.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-110-101 Clean the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Clean the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-277 Examine the Repair

      1. Visually examine the plated area for cracks and plating that is not attached to the base metal.
