Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-076 Remove the Damaged Thermal Blanket

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Remove the rivets.

      2. Prevent damage to the components when the rivets are removed.

        Use a hand grinder.

      1. Drift rivets out from each hole.

      2. Use a drift.

    3. Remove thermal blanket.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-141 Inspect the Rivet Holes

    2. Inspect the rivet holes and the adjacent surfaces.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-074 Examine the Case

      1. Do the fluorescent penetrant inspection on the rivet holes and the adjacent surfaces.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

        Use FPI inspection station.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-077-A00 Install the New Thermal Blanket

    2. Refer to: Figure

      NOTE

      As an option to this procedure, you can do the procedure in Step to install the original thermal blanket. The original thermal blanket must be acceptable by TASK 72-50-53-200-003-A00 (INSPECTION/CHECK-003, CONFIG-002).
    3. Install the new thermal blanket.

      1. Do the holes in the new thermal blanket.

      2. Use the existing holes in the seal housing seat, as a drill mask.

      1. Fit the new rivets.

      2. Rivet heads must be flush with, or below the surface of, seal housing.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-077-B00 Install the Original Thermal Blanket

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Install the original thermal blanket.

      1. Line up the existing holes in the thermal blanket with the holes in the seal housing.

      2. If the rivet holes are damaged, you can enlarge the holes for oversized rivets, PN AS16529 or AS125009 .

    4. Install the rivets, PN AS16489 , AS16529 or AS125009 as applicable.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-142 Inspect the Rivets

    2. Inspect the rivets for security and cracks.

    3. Examine unit surfaces for excessive gap.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-078 Record the Repair

      1. Vibration peen VRS5405 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501. Use the vibration peen method with 0.006 in. (0.15 mm) maximum depth.
