TASK 72-60-21-440-001 Main Gearbox Casing And Fittings - Assemble The Main Gearbox Case And Fittings, Assembly-001
General
Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.
For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the Fig/item number.
For standard torque data and procedures, refer to SPM TASK 70-41-00-400-501 and SPM TASK 70-41-02-400-501.
Special torque data and assembly tolerances are included in the procedure.
Lubricate all threads and abutment faces of nuts and bolts with CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL, unless other lubricants are referred to in the procedure.
To identify, lubricate and install seal rings, refer to SPM TASK 70-44-01-400-501.
After assembly apply CoMat 07-012 AIR DRYING ENAMEL air drying touch-up enamel to any damaged surface protection, joint flanges and attach parts. Use the correct color of the . Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-06-380-501.
The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.
Transportation covers/blanks must be removed immediately before the installation of the components.

Safety Requirements

Refer to Figure.
Install ENGINE-MAIN GEARBOX CASE AND FITTINGS (72-60-21, 01-360) packing 1 off in to the groove of the insert.
Install the insert in to the seat below the mounting flange of the hydraulic pump. Torque to 53.105 lbfin to 70.806 lbfin (6 Nm to 8 Nm). Lock with CoMat 02-119 LOCKWIRE.
Install Transportation Fittings (72-60-03, 01-270) packing 1 off in to the groove of the oil drain plug. Install the plug in to the insert and torque to 35.403 lbfin to 53.105 lbfin (4 Nm to 6 Nm). Lock with CoMat 02-119 LOCKWIRE.
Install the oil drain plug of the main gearbox case.
Install ENGINE-MAIN GEARBOX CASE AND FITTINGS (72-60-21, 01-200) packing 1 off in to the groove of the oil adapter.
Install ENGINE-MAIN GEARBOX CASE AND FITTINGS (72-60-21, 01-100) packing 1 off in to the groove of the plug.
Install the plug in to the oil adapter and torque to 106 lbfin to 124 lbfin (12 Nm to 14 Nm). Lock with CoMat 02-119 LOCKWIRE.
Install the oil drain plug of the oil tank.
SUBTASK 72-60-21-440-051 Install the Oil Drain Plugs on the Front Side of the Main Gearbox Case
Refer to Figure.
Install ENGINE-MAIN GEARBOX CASE AND FITTINGS (72-60-21, 01-700) packing 1 off on the groove of the oil input adapter. Install the oil input adapter in to the seat on the left hand of the mounting flange of the angle gearbox support. Align the holes in the adapter flange with the two studs.
Install ENGINE-MAIN GEARBOX CASE AND FITTINGS (72-60-21, 01-760) packing 1 off in to the groove of the oil input adapter. Install the oil input adapter in to the seat on the right hand of the mounting flange of the angle gearbox support. Align the holes in the adapter flange with the two studs.
SUBTASK 72-60-21-440-052 Install the Oil Input Adapters on the Rear Side of the Main Gearbox Case
Refer to Figure.
Install ENGINE-MAIN GEARBOX CASE AND FITTINGS (72-60-21, 01-600) packing 1 off in to the groove of the insert.
Install the insert in to the seat below the mounting flange of the fuel pump. Torque to 53.105 lbfin to 70.806 lbfin (6 Nm to 8 Nm). Lock with CoMat 02-119 LOCKWIRE.
Install Transportation Fittings (72-60-03, 01-278) packing 1 off in to the groove of the oil drain plug. Install the plug in to the insert and torque to 35.403 lbfin to 53.105 lbfin (4 Nm to 6 Nm). Lock with CoMat 02-119 LOCKWIRE.
Install the oil drain plug of the fuel pump drive pad.
Install ENGINE-MAIN GEARBOX CASE AND FITTINGS (72-60-21, 01-840) packing 1 off in to the groove of the insert.
Install the insert in to the seat below the mounting flange of the IDGS. Torque to 53.105 lbfin to 70.806 lbfin (6 Nm to 8 Nm). Lock with CoMat 02-119 LOCKWIRE .
Install Transportation Fittings (72-60-03, 01-282) packing1 off in to the groove of the oil drain plug. Install the plug in to the insert and torque to 35.403 lbfin to 53.105 lbfin (4 Nm to 6 Nm). Lock with CoMat 02-119 LOCKWIRE .
Install the oil drain plug of the IDGS shaft pad.
