    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove the studs and the lock rings.

      2. Refer to Repair, VRS5255, TASK 72-60-21-300-004.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-320-057 Machine the Bearing Bore in the Gearbox Casing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the bearing bore.

      2. The diameter must be between 2.9118 in. to 2.9134 in. (73.960 mm and 74.000 mm) after the removal of the damage.

      3. Deleted.

      1. Blend the drain holes if necessary.

      2. Blend the sharp edges around the two drain holes.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-320-058 Machine the Bearing Mating Surface in the Gearbox Casing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the bearing mating surface.

      2. The diameter must be between 4.6043 in. to 4.6083 in. (116.950 mm and 117.050 mm) in relation to surface Z, after the removal of the damage.

      3. Deleted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-220-108 Examine the Gearbox Casing

      1. Inspect the gearbox casing for cracks in the area of the bore.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-330-060 Apply the Chromate Conversion Coating

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the machined surfaces.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-350-069 Install the Bushing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Install the guide pin.

      2. Put IAE 3F10428 Guide pin 1 off in threaded hole on bearing mating surface, adjacent to machined bore.

    3. Install the bushing on the IAE 3F10336 Drift, bushing (dia 67) 1 off.

      1. WARNING

DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.
HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.
IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES IF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET THE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSIST.

Increase the temperature of the gearbox casing and/or decrease the temperature of the assembled drift and bushing.

      2. Use an oven and/or a freezer.

      3. Do not increase the temperature of the casing above 284 deg F (140 deg C).

      4. Do not decrease the temperature of the assembled drift and bushing below -58 deg F (-50 deg C).

      1. NOTE

The difference in temperature between the parts must be 216 deg F (120 deg C).

Remove the gearbox casing from the oven and/or the assembled drift and bushing from the freezer.

      2. Use protective gloves.

      1. CAUTION

INSTALL BUSHING IN MACHINED BORE IMMEDIATELY AFTER REMOVAL FROM FREEZER, OTHERWISE BUSHING CANNOT BE CORRECTLY INSTALLED.

Install the bushing into machined bore.

        1. Use IAE 3F10336 Drift, bushing (dia 67) 1 off and an arbor press.

        2. Give sufficient back-up support at bushing bore area, to prevent casing distortion when you install the bushing.

    4. Let the parts get the ambient temperature.

    5. Remove the drift and the guide pin.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-320-059 Machine the Inner Diameter of the Bushing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter of the bushing.

      2. The dimension must be between 2.7553 in. to 2.7561 in. (69.985 mm to 75.004 mm). Chamfer where necessary.

      3. Deleted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-320-060 Machine the Flange Surface of the Bushing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the flange surface.

The dimension must be between 4.5236 in. to 4.5315 in. (114.900 mm to 115.100 mm) in relation to surface Z.

      2. Deleted.
