    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-350-132 Remove the Studs

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Remove the lockrings and studs in the bearing mating surface.

      2. Refer to repair VRS5255 TASK 72-60-21-300-004 (REPAIR-004).

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-320-118 Machine the Bearing Bore in the Gearbox Casing

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Machine the bearing bore.

      2. The diameter must be between 3.0614 in. and 3.0630 in. (77.760 mm and 77.800 mm) after the removal of the damage.

      1. Machine the idler bearing mating surface.

      2. The dimensions must be between 0.0315 in. to 0.0472 in. (0.800 mm to 1.200 mm) after the removal of the damage.

    2. Use a magnifying glass inspect the casing for cracks in the area of the bearing bore.

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the machined surfaces.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-350-133 Install the Bushing

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Install the guide pin.

      2. Put IAE 3F10428 Guide pin 1 off in threaded hole on roller bearing mating surface, adjacent to machined bore.

    3. Install the bushing on the IAE 3F10337 Drift, bushing (dia 74) 1 off.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.

        WARNING

        HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.

        WARNING

        IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES IF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET THE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSISTS.

        Use an oven and/or a freezer to increase the temperature of the casing and/or decrease the temperature of the assembled drift and bushing.

      2. Do not increase the temperature of the casing above 284 deg F (140 deg C).

      3. Do not decrease the temperature of the assembled drift and bushing below minus 58 deg F (minus 50 deg C).

    4. NOTE

      The difference in temperature between the parts must be 216 deg F (120 deg C).

      Use protective gloves to remove the casing from the oven and/or the assembled drift and bushing from the freezer.

      1. CAUTION

        INSTALL BUSHING IN MACHINED BORE IMMEDIATELY AFTER REMOVAL FROM FREEZER, OTHERWISE BUSHING CANNOT BE CORRECTLY INSTALLED.

        Install the bushing into machined bore.

      2. Use IAE 3F10337 Drift, bushing (dia 74) and an arbor press.

      3. Give sufficient back-up support at bushing bore area to prevent casing distortion when you install the bushing.

    5. Let the parts get the ambient temperature.

    6. Remove the drift and the guide pin.

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter of the bushing.

      2. The dimension must be between 2.9522 in. and 2.9529 in. (74.985 mm and 75.004 mm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-320-121 Machine the Flange Surface of the Bushing

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Machine the flange surface of the bushing.

        1. The dimension must be between 4.7205 in. to 4.7283 in. (119.900 mm to 120.100 mm).

        2. Chamfer where necessary.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-330-107 Apply the Chromate Conversion Coating

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the machined surface of the bushing.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-350-134 Install New Studs

      1. Install the new studs and the new lockrings.
