Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-320-060 Machine the Rear Bearing Shoulder of the Gearshaft,

      1. Machine the rear bearing shoulder.

      2. Remove all damage and wear.

Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

Do not remove more than 0.005in. (0.127 mm) of material.

The preplating dimension must be between 4.4616 to 4.4606in. (113.325 to 113.300 mm) in relation to surface D.

Surface roughness must be 32 microin. (0.8 micron) before plating.

        Use.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-240-054 Examine the Gearshaft

      1. Do the magnetic particle inspection for cracks.

      2. Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-210-053 Nital Etch the Rear Bearing Shoulder

      1. Do the nital etch on the rear bearing shoulder to find signs of burnt metal.

      2. Machine the rear bearing shoulder if there are signs of burnt metal.

Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-370-057 Do the De-embrittle Treatment

      1. Put the gearshaft into oil at 284 deg F (140 deg C) for 2 hours.

      2. Use a .

Do this procedure as soon as possible in less than 2 hours after the etch.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-380-053 Shot-peen the Rear Bearing Shoulder

      1. Shot-peen the rear bearing shoulder surface to an intensity of 0.006A to 0.008Ain.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-110-053 Clean the Gearshaft

      1. Vapour degrease the gearshaft.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-330-056 Chromium Plate the Rear Bearing Shoulder of the Gearshaft,

      1. Mask the areas of the gear not to be plated.

      1. Chromium plate the rear bearing shoulder.

      2. Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit the machining to the last dimensions.

The plating out of the rear bearing shoulder area is permitted but must be removed.

        Use.

    2. Remove the mask.

      1. Clean and dry the gearshaft.

      2. Flush with cold water.

        Flush with hot water.

        Dry with air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-370-058 De-embrittle the Gearshaft

      1. Put the gearshaft into an at 284 to 392 deg F (140 to 200 deg C) for 5 hours.

      2. Do this procedure as soon as possible in less than 4 hours after the plating.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-220-078 Examine the Gearshaft

      1. Visually examine the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      2. Plating must have a constant color.

        Cracks are not permitted.

Bubbles or signs of burnt metal are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-320-061 Machine the Rear Bearing Shoulder of the Gearshaft,

      1. Machine the rear bearing shoulder.

      2. The last dimensions must be between 4.4665 to 4.4626in. (113.450 to 113.350 mm) in relation to surface D.

        Chamfer where necessary.

        Use.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-220-079 Examine the Chromium Plated Area,

      Fig-72-60-23-990-013

      1. Visually examine the chromium plated area for cracks and adhesion.

      2. Use a .

The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding, is permiteed.

      1. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      2. Do not accept a thickness less than 0.001in. (0.025 mm) after the last machining.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-24-350-061 Record the Repair

      1. Vibro engrave VRS5142 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Use .

Remove the metal lifted by marking.
