Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-350-116 Remove the Insert

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove the damaged insert(s).

      2. Drill the inner diameter of the insert between the keys and the internal thread for not more than 0.102 in. (2.6 mm) depth. Use a 0.354 in. (9.0 mm) drill. Bend with a punch and remove the keys. Use a drill puller to remove the insert.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-100-002 Clean the Part

      1. Clean the thread.

      2. Use a clean dry air blast to remove all swarf.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-220-179 Examine the Part After the Insert Removal

      1. Visually examine the part.

      2. Make sure that the threads are clean and free from damage and swarf. Reject if damage is found.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-330-091 Restore the Damaged Anodic Treatment

      1. Check the surface.

      2. Do the touch-up process. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-350-117 Install the New Insert

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Install the insert.

      2. Screw in by hand the new insert in the adapter threaded hole. Align the keys with the broach seats on the adapter. Make sure that the insert is flush both sides of the flange. Push the keys into the broached seats.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-330-092 Restore the Damaged Anodic Treatment

      1. Check the surface.

      2. Do the touch-up process if the anodic treatment was damaged by insert installation, at the surface. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-220-180 Inspect the Insert

      1. Do an inspection of the new insert.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-350-118 Identify the Repair

      1. Vibration peen VRS5678 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501, SUBTASK 70-09-00-400-001. Use vibro-engraving equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-330-093 Restore the Damaged Anodic Treatment

      1. Check the surface.

      2. Do the touch-up process on the marking area, if necessary. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.
