Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 73-13-41-350-062 Remove the Cracks from the Inner Heatshield of the Fuel Nozzle and Support Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. CAUTION

BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU ROUT OUT CRACKS SO YOU DO NOT CAUSE NICKS, GOUGES OR OTHER TOOL MARKS ON THE BASE METAL OF THE SUPPORT THAT IS ADJACENT TO OR BEHIND THE HEATSHIELD.

Rout out cracks in the inner heatshield.

      NOTE

If the crack goes into the braze attachment joint or is more than 0.080 in. (2.03 mm) or is the No Weld Zone, you must repair the inner heatshield.
    1. SUBTASK 73-13-41-110-060 Clean the Repair Area of the Fuel Nozzle and Support Assembly

      1. Clean the area to be welded to remove surface oxides from the inner heatshield.

      2. Use Stainless steel wire brush or Silicone carbide abrasives - no specific to mechanically clean around the crack repair area.

    1. SUBTASK 73-13-41-110-061 Clean the Fuel Nozzle and Support Assembly

      1. Clean the fuel nozzle and support assembly.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-01-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 73-13-41-310-056 Weld the Cracks in the Leading Edge of the Inner Heatshield in the Fuel Nozzle and Support Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      NOTE

If the crack goes into the braze attachment joint or is more than 0.080 in. (2.03 mm) or is in the No Weld Zone, you must not repair the inner heatshield and the support is not serviceable.
    3. Heat the nozzle and the support assembly to 300 deg F (148.9 deg C) for a minimum of 20 minutes.

    4. Provide an argon gas backup (flow argon gas behind the heatshield during the weld repair).

      1. Weld the cracks in the inner heat shield.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

      3. Use Manual gas tungsten arc weld (IAE 16A) method to weld the cracks in the heatshield.

      4. Use CoMat 03-209 WELDING FILLER WIRE, NiBASE 5% Cr welding filler wire that is 0.031 in. (0.79 mm) in diameter.

      5. The maximum height of the weld must be 0.020 in. (0.51 mm). Do not remove material from the weld.

    5. Let the weld area become cool slowly after repair.

      NOTE

      Stress-relief is not necessary.
    6. Manually blend the weld beads flush to adjacent parent material.

    1. SUBTASK 73-13-41-230-061 Examine the Fuel Nozzle and Support Assembly after Weld Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the weld repairs.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

      3. No cracks are permitted.

      4. Fluorescent penetrant inspection is necessary on the complete area.

      1. Visually inspect the inner heat shield attachment braze joint.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-21-00-220-501.

      3. Make sure there is full line of sight braze coverage at the inner heatshield attachment braze joint.

      4. Less than 100 percent coverage is not acceptable.
