Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-110-061 Clean the Tube Connector

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Clean the areas around the cracks on two sides, if possible.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

      3. Dirty surfaces cause a decrease in weld strength.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-350-083 Weld Up Repair Tube Connector

      NOTE

Do the welding of titanium in a protective gas atmosphere to avoid impurities in weld seams, leading to premature cracking and reduction in fatigue strength.
      1. Weld up cracks, use tungsten inert gas method.

      2. Refer to Figure and SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

      3. For purity of welds, weld in a protective gas environment.

      4. Use CoMat 03-246 WELDING MATERIAL to repair cracks on tubes and CoMat 03-247 WELDING MATERIAL on housing.

      5. To repair cracks in joints between housing and tubes, use CoMat 03-246 WELDING MATERIAL.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-220-090 Examine the Welds

      1. Examine the weld quality.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501 for acceptance standards.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-230-070 Examine the Local Repaired Areas of Cracks

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

      3. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-110-062 Clean the Tube Connector

      1. Clean the tube.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-350-084 Dress the Welded Areas

      CAUTION

DO NOT OVERHEAT THE AREAS WHICH ARE DRESSED.
      1. Dress the welds, which are too much to the initial contour.

      2. Use files or Hand held stones.

      3. No increased material is permitted on the touch surfaces.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-370-052 Heat Treatment after the Repair

      1. Heat treat the tube connector.

      2. Put the part in an oven for two hours at 887 deg F (475 deg C).

      3. Use argon or vacuum.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-49-230-071 Examine the Repaired Area for Cracks

      1. Do a test for cracks.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

      3. No cracks are permitted.
