Fill the Oil Tank

Fill the oil tank

The quantity of oil in the tank must be checked (and replenished as necessary) between five and twenty minutes after engine shut down.

If the engine was stopped for 10 hours or more, dry motor the engine for two minutes before you fill the oil tank. Refer to TASK 71-00-00-700-001 (TESTING-001).

Remove the filler cap from the oil tank.

Fill the oil tank with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS to the top of the filler cap overflow.

Make sure the oil level indicator shows FULL.

Examine the preformed packing on the filler cap. If necessary, replace the packing as follows.

Lubricate a new OIL-OIL TANK(79-11-41,01-760) preformed packing1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

Remove the damaged packing then install the new packing.

Make sure the filler cap handle is in the open position.

Align the lock of the cap with the slots in the filler neck.

Install the cap and turn the handle to the closed position. Lower the handle to lock the cap.

Safety Requirements

WARNING

DO NOT LET THE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

WARNING

HOT OIL CAN SPRAY ON A PERSON AND CAN CAUSE BURNS. DO NOT REMOVE THE OIL TANK CAP FOR FIVE MINUTES AFTER THE ENGINE STOPS. THIS WILL LET THE PRESSURE IN THE OIL TANK DECREASE.

CAUTION

YOU MUST DRY MOTOR THE ENGINE FOR TWO MINUTES IF THE ENGINE WAS STOPPED FOR 10 HOURS OR MORE. THIS WILL MAKE SURE THAT THE OIL LEVEL SHOWN IN THE TANK IS CORRECT BEFORE YOU ADD THE OIL.
